You choose a player on form, not their reputation.

Sums it all up perfectly.
Jenkinson started 7 games in between Sagna's return vs QPR and his red card vs Sunderland. 8 if you include the game he got sent off in. That is 8 in 24 games, more than pretty much any 2nd choice full back should expect. So don't give me this garbage about him forgetting how to play football because he was dropped.
"You choose a player on form, not their reputation."
In the time Sagna has come back, he has played better than Jenkinson, so yea Wenger is right on this one

and you are going to judge him on 1 of them, but ignore sagna's ton of bad games? such a hypocrite.

my god. you are clueless.
He has been poor in all those games.
Sagna since the QPR game > Jenkinson since the QPR game
Undeniable fact. Clueless
Tbf jenkinson has improved remarkable since last season he deserves more game time he should go on loan next season I'm sure there will be loads of Prem club queing up for him
In the time Sagna has come back, he has played better than Jenkinson, so yea Wenger is right on this one

Seriously? Sorry, but that's clueless. Not worth debating any more. Goodnight.
There is no debate. Jenkinson is young and English and had a good start to the season so he is better than the old French player who is out of contract soon and has vocally criticised the club.
Performances are not important here. It is all about favoritism
As you've so wonderfully demonstrated
Sergio, can you name a good performance Jenkinson has had since he was dropped vs QPR? I can think of the Spurs game in which he was subbed off in.
Your turn. I don't expect a reply.
The problem with our squad is that too many of first choice players were bought as patches.
Arteta as Cesc replacement, didn't work, stuck in a deep lying role - but not the one needed to protect the defence.
Giroud as RVP replacement - for all his goals, not nearly as prolific, struggles to hold the ball up, not mobile.
Per's aerial ability was thought to benefit the team. He is an intelligent defender and makes very well-timed interceptions. He was easily our best defender for some 1/3 of the season. However, I think he is not really suitable for our high line and overall attacking pace of the Prem. Unfortunately our system requires tall AND pacy central defenders. We must absolutely get one if Per does leave because as we all might already know, Kosc+Verm does not really work.
for Bundesliga Return According to German Sources.
That is wrong. The rumour comes from the Daily Fail and German media hyped this up.
Of course you shouldn't, I went to sleep look at you acting all mighty
In answer to your question, he hasn't had standout performances that I can remember, but bar the Sunderland game he has been consistently solid, dependable. I don't think you can say otherwise. And that's more you can say about Sagna who's had more than the odd awful game since he's come back.
I'm not saying Jenkinson is better than Sagna yet, but he has been better constantly this season. It wasn't fair to drop who was arguably the best form RB in the league at that time.
Vermealen is too mistake prone. He has never settled in England. Maybe too many injuries. Or he is just not coped with physicality of the premier league.
Mertesacker is too slow. The premier league is a combination of strength, power and a lot of attacking skill. Could Mertesacker make it in Spain? No. And no one would expect him to. England is a combination of Spanish attacking skill with additional power. Mertesacker is ideally suited to Germany or Italy.
Kos is a tremendous defender on the left side of a partnership. But he has never played there because of Vermealen's automatic selection. He is not very good on the right side of a centre-back partnership.
Ideally we would sell Djourou, Mertesacker, and Vermealen. Bring in a top right sided centre back like Ashley Williams to partner Kos. Then we need two younger centre backs to back them up!

So you can't name a good performance then. *shocked*
Solid and dependable is not good? Fair enough, but its strange that you support Sagna so stoutly when the same can't be said of him. To turn it back on you, name me a bad performance from him, other than the Sunderland game. There hasn't been one that I can recall, which would prove my point that Jenkinson has been more consistent and reliable than Sagna this season. Think different if you wish, I can't be bothered debating with you anymore.

1. Vermealen is too mistake prone. He has never settled in England. Maybe too many injuries. Or he is just not coped with physicality of the premier league.

1. Verms positional flaws became apparent before his long-term ankle troubles. The less said of him being bullied by any half decent physical striker - Zamora, Holt, the list goes on - the better. Shame really, because he made a really good impression at the start of his Arsenal career but we cannot let players rest on their laurels. It's just not worked out for him. Unfortunately Wenger has shot himself in the foot by giving Verm the armband.
2. Agreed, too slow. Also a shame because he is good in other aspects but lack of pace will always be an issue in the Prem. Hence my earlier remark about players being bought to patch up issues instead of solving them.
3. Why, Kosc is right footed, I thought RF players should play RCB?
4. You rate Williams? Haven't made up my mind personally. He was tremendous against Everton, have to admit. But they did get tonked 0-3 against Toffees in the reverse fixture (with Tate instead of Chico in df though) and conceded 4 against Norwich.
Ideally yes, we would havw wholesale changes in the squad, but our recent windows have been the exact opposite of ideal. We are not strengthening when we have to, and even when we do, we overlook the problems we need to solve (by buying unsuitable players as Arteta and Mert).
A top right sided centre back like Ashley Williams
Oh dear.
DJeezus how's the scouting of the DMs we talked about the other day
Ignacio Camacho, Benat, Asier Illarramendi, Alex Song, Gary Medel, Iriney, Mario Suarez.
I have only scouted La Liga thus far, and not Bundesliga or Serie A.
All of those are better bets than Etienne Capoue.
