England won't win anything with this team.

The players as a whole are not good enough.

Win something, what crazy world do you live in.

When will Gerrard learn that ball retention is a must at international level? So frustrating watching him last night, playing passes in the air, turning back into opposition players and trying back heels and nutmegs. Just keep the frickin ball fffs!

A very bitter thread

A manager that has won nothing significant and a captain who has won 1 trophy in the last 7 years.

Leading players who in the last 7 years between them have won countless trophies.Reality is that a team of winners domestically in one of the toughest leagues in World Football shouldn't be lead by these 2

England had Capello, a man who has won league titles and trophies everywhere, yet England were still dross under him.

It's not the manager, it's the players.

Great individually for their clubs, pash when they're playing together.

Rooney
Gerrard
Lampard
Terry
Ferdinand

You have a core there that are leaders of their clubs, some of the best players at their clubs. Clubs who have in the past 10 years won the Champions League and other trophies, yet when you put them together in a starting 11 they are no better than Denmark

Hodgson sums up England yes, boring. But the players on offer should be able to be a competitive nation for Int. Cups

A team of winners lead by a mid table manager off the field and a Captain of a mid table team on it.

Funny but true, 5 stars

It's about time people realised england are not in the elite of international football, whenever we come up against a decent team at competition level we get found out, stop dreaming and wake up.

Ignoring the Chelsea rhetoric, I completely agree with you. I watched last night in disbelief as your coach let Montenegro attack without changing things. It was obvious they were being overrun in midfield with Carrick the only half decent midfielder. Gerrard was, as usual, awful. The man cannot or will not pass the ball short. He obviously only knows how to play one way and that is the 75 metre pass. Even more ridiculous when you see the size of the England team. Add to that that he has absolutely no technique. He is the type of midfielder the English love as he tries to bulldoze and bully teams but he has no technique. Football has moved on since the 80s!

Cleverly as well brings absolutely nothing to a team that needs midfield strength. He's lightweight and wishy-washy. His positional sense is awful. What does he do? This anti-Lampard thing you all have has gone too far. He is the only box to box midfielder you have who will not abandon the defence and who has some subtlety and variety in his game. He will play short passes to the other midfielders like Carrick and make himself available for the ball by moving TOWARD it and not AWAY from it (anotehr English disease) and he will also play more diect passes to spaces behind the defence sometimes but not EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

And what about width? You have wingers. You have fast players. Why not play them? You play attacking full backs and defensive wingers!!!! What's the point? MEDIOCRE. Your manager stiinks of mediocrity and his team selections reflect his image.

Now, if I were Hodgson, I'd never pick Ferdinand again after his public humiliation but the problem is that Smalling and Lescott are nowhere near good enough. Lescott as a back up maybe. I know that there were injury problems in defence but it shows from where you have fallen.

You will make it to Rio - just but you will do the same negative things there and get nowhere.

Smalling is nowhere near good enough? Did you watch the game last night? He was probably our best player after Rooney. He has also done very well since he joined United. He is an excellent defender for his age and will only get better.

He was all over the place and needs to be more vocal to be a good defender. But he is too young, maybe in a few years he and Cleverly will be better. Lescott was the better of the two centre backs last night though.

He might have got pulled out of position a bit in the second half, but that was down to our non-existent midfield and the fact that Gerrard kept giving the ball away, allowing the opposition to counter-attack.

I don't even know where to start with this

Utter bollócks.

I guess the OP is fuming at Baines being overlooked again?

By the way we started the second half I wonder what was said at half time.First 4 touches from our players were awful and gave possession away giving Montenegro the impetus they needed.Gerrard should have rousted the players to sharpen up,but 2 out of those 4 poor touches I mentioned where from him.

From then on it was a totally unprofessional performance from all 11 players on the pitch and from the manager on the touchline.

what england need is a complete change in mentality, in how to play modern footy..

they need pep guardiola as coach and about 10-15 years

To be fair, Gerrard was poor last night. He kept chipping passes, turning into danger when on the ball, trying to nutmeg opponents and doing backheels. How many times did he lose possession? He was rubbish and Rooy should have taken both him and Cleverley off at around 50-55 minutes and brought on Lamps and Parker.

I still think we were wrong to sack Capello, he's not doing a bad job with Russia
