I can't believe the chairman of Wigan is asking that community to respect Thatcher!
Our club will do well to quell any celebratory songs. It sounds wrong, but it's true a lot of my fellow supporters hated her that much.
Wigan can do as they please, just concentrate on your own memorials.
I can pretty much guarantee it will be the least respected minutes silence of all time.

You mean like tory boy whelan?
Another out of touch clown.
I dont believe there should be a silence at any ground and I can understand the dislike of Maggie by certain sectors of the public that were around when she was prime minister, but what I dont like is people celebrating her death!!! Celebration of he resignation from leader of the Conserevatives YES, but her Death No, what I find disgusting is the rioting in Bristol the other night invoved a lot of idiots that weren't even born when she was prime minister!!!
In a free society he is entitled to his own opinion, as are you. People have different beliefs / feelings and are entitled to express them. He probably prospered under her leadership so respects her, that's his perogative.
TO BE FAIR it was SYP that covered up the Hillsborough disaster not Thatcher herself.
TO BE FAIR Fred it was done under her leadership. Don't try to absolve her of any blame. Besides that's not the only reason people hate the woman, she destroyed whole communities/lives.
Red666, what you fail to understand is that even though many who hate Thatcher didn't live under her rule directly her legacy still effects them today. New Labour and the current Tories simply picked up where she'd left off.
When will this fella just fly away and leave everyone alone. NOBODY CARES ABOUT WHAT HE SAYS.
I might stop watching footy if they honour that thing at all.
Blackbeard's Delight - so what? Anyone can spout what they like but it doesn't mean anyone has to listen. And we have every right to say that we don't want to hear him.
Typical - any other working class northerner would be dancing in delight. Give him a few million quid and they are the biggest Thatcher supporters around. Turncoat.
Aggers
So the rioting is ok then??
What you fail to see is that she did some good for the Country!!
As for her being in charge when the cover up happened, again what you fail to see is, was she at the ground No, was she given information by the people she trusted eg SYP yes, she could only act on information given.
Ok the information was wrong but thats the fault of the SYP, thank god the truth is out now, but she was not to blame for the cover up.
RED666 - yes she was. I don't believe for a second that the government weren't in the know about this. She was not far from throwing Liverpool to the wolves and this would have been perfect fuel for her. It was thanks to other members of her government that stopped her.
Anyway - as the saying goes, 'the buck stops with her'. She was in charge so she was responsible.
Also, look at where, and to whom, she did well for, and vice-versa.
What you fail to see is that she did some good for the Country!!
----------------
The good she did is is completely outweighed by the bad.
No such thing as society, but we all have to pay our taxes???
The woman was an egomaniacal despot.
Maggie the milk snatcher and all round good friend to the toff.
Muppet
But the trouble is she was informed by her advisors, yeah you can say the buck stops with her but she will make decisions on what info she recieves.
RED - excuse me but that's niave. To suggest that her advisers, SYP, the media, other senior figures from around the country - that everyone except her knew that they were covering up this atrocity - it just does not hold water.
You can point at countless examples where leaders have covered things up - being fully in the know - because they a)think they are above the law, and b) they think they will get away with it.
Muppet master thanks for reinforcing my entire point.
Blackbeard - please elaborate.

What I don't understand is why we should be having a minute's silence for any 87 year old woman. What makes her different from the rest- just because she is famous?
It's not as if her life was tragically cut short. Whelan and Madejski are idiots.
