The reason they vote in March is because they don't want it to be at the same time as the football writers' player of the year.

Think baines should be on the shortlist ahead of hazard to be honest

It is player of the season, its just called player of the year (as in the football year, not the calendar year).

Voting is done around March/April time, not as early as January.

michu should have been the 6th man

Baines and Michu should have been ahead of Carrick and Hazard.

carrick fully deserves his place in the top 6

Mata has probably been the most consistent across the season but not had a real purple patch like bale, Suarez and RVP have

Bale deserves it. People say he has only played well since the new year, but he had 9 league goals before the new year. He tore United and Liverpool apart earlier in the season.

He's single handedly won us many points and has pretty much kept us in the top 4 race.

Ferdinand and Vertonghan wow. Can't argue with the others.

ferdinand was always going to be in the team

Rio has been immense this season.

posted on 28/4/13

rio's been our best DF this season

posted on 28/4/13

Ferdinand is in there because he has been the best CB this season

posted on 28/4/13

I'm surprised by Rio, he's looked good but we've changed the back 4 a lot this season.

Vertonghen is because of his goals, the Garth crooks method of picking a defender

difficult to argue with most of the team tbh, they all have good cases to be in the team. there's no-one that sticks out as a no way should he be in the team

Personally I would have had Jagielka ahead of Ferdinand. Ivanovic or Williams ahead of Vertonghen.

posted on 28/4/13

I would have had begovic, Williams and michu in instead of de gea, Ferdinand and hazard

posted on 28/4/13

Can a Utd fan tell me how many games Rio has played - I honestly thought he had only played about 15 games.

I'm surprised about Vertonghen to be honest

20 odd in the league I think

posted on 28/4/13

It helps Rio that there have been no penalties awarded against United, I wonder how many he should have given away. One today definitely.

posted on 28/4/13

Verts and Rio have been class but Jagielka deserves to be in there.

Where are all of the world class Arsenal players?

posted on 28/4/13

De Gea definitely should have been in, he's been outstanding for most of the season. Some of the saves he has pulled off, Begovic can only dream of.
