You would hope that there’s more to it than the fact that those he appears to recommend are of Scottish origin. I doubt it though!
He calls us Notts Forest so I don't give a hoots about Alec
and then there's that supposed McLeish thing as well!
Just talking about this ... Man U would be stupid not to try to at least offer the job to Jose. He's the only manager around who could possibly step into the void left my Sir Alex. He's got the skill, the ego, the ambition and the drive to succeed at Man U.
Moyes is just good at not spending very much money.
Gotta respect the era he's had at man u.
That said, should spice things up. I can see the top 5 trying to step their game up and take the title, since man u could be abit off next season with the change, even if they have the team that walked the league this season.
I saw a forest fan early tweet that if Mancini stays at City, Moyes goes to Utd and Jose to Chelsea, Chelsea will win the league by 20 points.
Sounds about right to me
Mourrinho has had a lot of money to spend at the clubs where he's won league titles and European cups. I'd like to see how he would get on at Everton on their budget. And you could say the opposite about Moyes. He's done brilliantly at Everton, given the budget but would does that automatically mean he'll be able to handle the pressure at Utd.
I agree they are mad not to go for Mourinho and in some ways you wonder if this decision has been made now in order to stop Jose joining either Chelsea or PSG.
I imagine the next manager would have been lined up several weeks ago, whoever it is!

He won the European Cup at Porto. His budget must have been a fraction of the top clubs.

Well, I think Moyes is the ideal appointment, very much in the Fergie mould and should provide the right sort of continuity. Ferguson, to his credit, has continually built for the future, generally buying younger players with the occasional established star like a van Persie thrown in. It's been noticeable to me that Man U have generally not gone in for the sort of high profile star who seems to end up playing for every one of the leading European clubs, like an Ibrahimovic, say. The Man U team always seems to be evolving and developing, yet still competitive, while others spend top dollar and try to buy instantaneous teams.
I don't like the git, having said all that.
Mourinho is also an incredibly impressive guy but leaves trouble behind him and doesn't stay anywhere too long. I think he fits right in at Chelsea and I expect Chelsea to immediately become competitive again, but to be back in turmoil within 2-3 years when he next leaves. Moyes will be intended as another legacy-type manager, and he has Fergie upstairs to consult. I still see Man U being the team to beat.
I would imagine the old moutache Pete's of the United board like Charlton and others are in the ear of the Glazers about Moyes and keeping Fergie around isnt wise either. He'll be sitting in the stands every second game with the fans singing his name and Moyes having to bow to him like he's the King, the minute results or performances start to wane the call will come for fergie to come back down from the boardroom.
With a new Chief Exec they'd be better off having a clean sweep, bring in Mourinho and leave Fergie to be an Ambassador and make sure he keeps out of sight on matchdays. Moyes is an underwhelming appointment and Mourinho could have continued the United machine would roll on for years to come uninterrupted but the suits upstairs would rather a quieter guy who who ticks the boxes. Its an unambitious appointment and if Chelsea end up with Mourinho you can see the balance of power swinging back to London for the forseeabale future.

Porto are the biggest and richest club in Portugal and have plenty of money. Not the money of Real or Utd but very rich. They sign players for big money. Hardly the same as Moyes at Everton.
I feel for Utd fans.
They must feel similar to the way I felt when we appointed Steve Cotterill.
Can't help thinking its a mad decision. I've no love for Utd but dodgy managerial appointments do my head in.
I agree with you Len. It does seem to be an unambitious appointment. He's not proven at the very top level as well, so not entirely without its risks.
Moyes might be better off going somewhere like Celtic to win a few titles and get experience in Europe before making step up to Utd's level.
Who else apart from Mourinho could realistically get the job?

Not sure about that. People go on like Moyes has spent pennies. He has spent decent money.
Winning the champions league with Porto is a remarkable achievment.

Thought you were changing names, Rev?
I always thought that MON was destined to take over the Old Trafford hot seat. His career has stalled somewhat, but still think he'd be a better option than Moyes!?
Who is strong enough to stand the pressure? Lose a couple of games and the media will be ripping them apart.
The kids wil be trading in their shirts for City/Chesea/Arsenal kits.
I reckon Jose is the only guy who has big enough gonads to step into the vacant position.. but would it be a wise appointment for the long term?
McCleish..I'm sure Fergie would put him forward for the job
