"Did we really swap divisions with the mighty Yeovil Town yesterday?"

Ouch!

"My fear is that we will recognize these lower league journeymen all too well."

Yes Southampton stuck with a lot of players in their climb up the divisions and so did Swansea. That's the whole point of having young players who grow with the club and when Wolves adopted the young and hungry policy under McCarthy it was with the express intention of the players signed at a lower level forming the basis of the team that gave us our best run in the top flight for a generation. Lets hope we do the same again now

" my fear is .......the team that runs out for our first game in August will be an unrecognizable collection of lower league journeymen"

--------------------------------------

I heard that the journeymen are waiting on a phone call from Yeovil

But we could try the academy squad ?

That plan worked a treat last time in getting us back to the prem, it only started to break down once we were there.
I truly hope we give a lot of our youngsters a chance for a start, the purpose of our academy was that we would attract top class youngster and that they would be playing against the best youth players in the country.

But it didn't break down when we were there cinci. Else we would not have stayed there for three seasons for the first time in a generation. It worked a treat.

You can think that if you want, for me we stayed there for two seasons, the third season was a disaster and we did anything BUT stay there.
And for me we are where we are now because of squad neglect, unfortunately Mick had a bad run of signings when it mattered, he obviously wanted to strengthen the squad or would not have made 20+ transfers, sadly only 3 or 4 had any kind of impact.

So firstly you are saying the players that got us there failed us then you say the new signings did. Keep up the desperate knocking of our best manager for a generation if you like. And keep dreaming of if only we and Koln had kept Solbakken a little longer so he could have finished the job of taking both teams down.

I agree though absolute disaster that third season. Wouldn't it be terrible to turn the clock back to being 18th in the top flight. How on earth did we put up with such incompetence

Oh look it's the plebeian posse

Not knocking the manager at all, I have always said he worked wonders initially, outstanding in fact, I didn't even want him sacked til halfway through that third season so maybe you need to get your facts straight before talking nonsense.
My point was that the squad development was mismanaged once in the prem, we did not strengthen the right areas well enough and paid the price, I dont really see how anyone can think we could not have done a lot better givdn the amount of money mick was given??
As for talking it up like glory days in that third season, ridiculous, we set records for most goals conceded at home, and went down with the fifth worst record of all time in the prem......its all relative, we WERE a prem team so it WAS a disaster.

I agree that once Connor was appointed it was a disaster and Solbakken and Saunders carried on that new level to a tee. Our third season under McCarthy was the third best season this club has had in 30 years. So why is it nonsense to praise it. McCarthy worked wonders not just initially but throughout his time with Wolves. How else can you describe his achievements with a club that has spent 26 of the last 30 seasons outside the top flight.

Yeovil have had a magnificent achievement making the Championship. Why? Because they are a club not used to being at that level. And if they stay there for three years and then go down then we can say now that there is no way their final season at that level can be described as a disaster cause it will be the third best in their history. So it is with Wolves recent history.

And im not disputing that.
Going by your conversation with gb last week, it seems you were unhappy with mick more times than me, his second season and after the blackburn finale?!

But yet im wrong for blaming him for a lions share of our relegation season.....now that does not make sense?!
You know as well as I do he has to take plenty of blame for that season but as its me saying it you have to disagree.

What I am disagreeing with is the words you write. What else can I use to judge your opinion? You said our use of young players fell apart when we got to the Premier - I don't think it did.

You said our third season in the top flight was a disaster - until McCarthy was sacked it certainly wasn't.

And no I was not critical of McCarthy after the Blackburn finale. His target was to stay up and we did so as we got more points than Birmingham so what was there to be unhappy about.

Feel free to add constructive comments rather than symbols guys

You can call it what you want, but conceding goals within 25 mins of around 50% of games, 15 pts from your last 23 games, failing to score twice against a poor brum, threatening to fight the fans and having a chairman barge into the dressing room already split, AND all before getting humiliated at home by our biggest rivals......hardly a good steady season til mick got sacked was it!!!

There was plenty of room for concern after the blackburn game, for whatever reason we rolled over and died......but he deserved to keep his job to me.

'Constructive' is an interesting word Cinci.

Debating seasons of failure for hours on end is not it.

I would love to add my two-penneth to this, but I've got to go back to work.

DJ your continual denial of the fact that we were very fortunate to have survived our second season and moreover our complete disaster in the third will continue when I get back from work and you are fast asleep in bed.

Keep it up cinci, you're right mate.

Try writing that comment in English if you can. You are suggesting I will deny something when I am fast asleep in bed? Quality comedy as always witless. But if your close friend cinci can keep it up for you I am sure you will still have a smile on your face all day
