I suppose the most sensible, logical conclusion would be to compare league positions from the previous season.
"During the same period AVB spent considerably less. "
Does spending £60m, £10m more than Liverpool, now constitute to "considerably less"?

Can we just end this article now, it`s getting embarassing, Liverpool have barely scrapped above Swansea and WBA, when their target was top four minimum

Really? Top 4 minimum target?
Proof or it was never said.
AVB is an excellent young manager that has won domestic and european trophies.
Roy Rodgers is a championship manager at best, who also defends the indefensible in gutter boy Sewerez.
AVB has had a long list of injuries to key players all season long and has still managed a club record haul of points for Spurs with a break even spend. Rodgers has spent £50m in two windows and taken Liverpool to the dizzy heights of 7th (behind Everton).
I dread to think where Liverpool would have finished if referees had not been so delighted to award Goofy for his (very good) gamesmanship throughout the season.

Keep consoling yourwelf but blowing top four again ha ha ha
No Spurs fan has denied that Bale has dived, he has from what I can remember dived on 2 occasions blatantly, which was some time ago, since then he has stopped diving and instead is now being victimised and singled out by incompetent and inept referees almost all the time.
Sewerez on the other hand is the worst cheat and diver in the history of football, he dives and over reacts (with or without contact) every time he is tackled and referees seemingly turn a blind eye to most of it and cant wait to give him free kicks and penalties.
Maybe Goofy is just too sly and good at gamesmanship (he has certainly had a lot of practice), but referees should be keeping a closer eye on him instead of victimising the innocent.
Rodgers had an easier job imo. Liverpool couldn't get any worse and he had plenty more to spend (net). He has improved Liverpool and although they are still a fair way off us they have narrowed the gap.
I've been impressed with AVB though and think he has helped continue the good work Harry did (before he lost interest).
I would say overall AVB has done better. Rodgers seems to be making the mistakes AVB did at Chelsea with his stubborness. Luckily for him Liverpool and a far more patient club than Chelsea.
Someone still sore about failing to get top 4?
Even with Bale's best diving wasn't enough to win a top four spot. Arsenal must be laughing their heads off!

"which was some time ago, since then he has stopped diving "
He did it every time he got the ball against us unfortunately for him that wasn't very often and the referees didn't fall for it either

Freudian slip there! Oops I've done it now
"Liverpool have barely scrapped above Swansea and WBA, when their target was top four minimum"
We finished 12 points higher than West Brom, and 15 higher than Swansea. We finished 12 points off top 4.
Using this logic we finished just off the CL places .
If you try to use Sandy logic you'll find yourself tearing your hair out
A few results against the league whipping boys and others against teams with only pride to play for will not change the fact that Liverpool are still way off the top 4 pace.
Take away Sewer Boy`s gamesmanship and they would have finished firmly in mid to lower table.
