think that we can all agree that he took us to the next level
===================
He did and we have now gone back a level.
Regardless of Harry wanting a job that would have been the pinnacle of his career (of which i dont blame him), he was the best thing to happen to Spurs in donkeys - and i cant see when we will hit the same heights again.
Back to square one i'm afraid.
Chicken showing how utterly clueless he is again... AVB acquired more points this season than Harry ever did. How exactly is that going backwards?
Doovdé
How many more times do i have to tell you that league placings are not decided on who beats their total from the season before. Our sport is decided on league rankings - of which we have fallen back a place (4th to 5th).
Our points total from last season, the amount of corners we conceded/took, yellow cards recieved, throw-ins taken or any other stat you want to compare from a previous season do not matter - its the league placings that determine success & failure.
Call me clueless as much as you like but its a fact.
Also Doovdé, will you stop trying to ruin articles but hurling insults as soon as you appear on them?
You might like the feeling of acting tough but all it does is ruin an article that an OP has posted for debate.
Disagree with an opinion all you like but we should at least try to debate like adults - not act like we're in a playground.
Chicken
I respect your opinion, but to say we are back to square one is a huge exaggeration - is it not?
I can only see your comments when I'm logged out. Probably safe to assume you're still creaming over Harry and still hating on AVB.
More points is better than less points
We were just unlucky this season that our rivals did even better than previously.
Here's an analogy:
If a sprinter runs a 100m race, and finishes 4th in a time of 10 seconds flat.
He then runs his next race, in a time of 9.75 seconds (his fastest ever time), however he's up against better opposition and this time only finishes 5th.
You tell me - is he making progress or not?
Chicken, he did it after losing VDV and Modric. That is a big loss imo. He did well.
Back to square one the bloke is an idiot. He's pro Harry and doesn't support AVB. Worst fan on this forum, he doesn't even watch Spurs, all he knows is what's shown on MOTD.
AVB's achievements this season:
Achieved Tottenham's longest ever unbeaten run in the PL.
Best away record ever recorded for Tottenham in the PL (including most away wins).
Beat Man United at OT for the first time in the PL.
Joint highest points haul (more than Harry ever acquired. Also the most points ever gained yet didn't qualify for CL)
All this and reached the quarter finals in Europa.
Back to square one
Edb,
I respect your opinion, but to say we are back to square one is a huge exaggeration - is it not?
========================
Its no more of an exaggeration than claiming we have been taken “to the next level” even though we are technically & officially worse off. If Murray is the world number 4 this season and ends up world number 5 the next, he has gone down a level - not up.
Phil,
Yes more points is better than less points, but only if they are comparable in the same season, ie. 72pts is better than 69pts for this season, but its no point comparing a points total from this season to a points total last season, 2 years ago, 5 years ago or 10 years ago. As i say, in the sport we play in, success & failure is measured by league ranking - not an individuals points tally, corners taken, goals scored, throw-ins conceded etc from a previous one.
As for your runner scenario, it doesnt matter what time he runs individually, he will never win a gold medal if he runs slower than his rival runners.
The same goes for any other sport, take golf for example, a golfer could hit more hole in ones than ever before, but unless he beats his competitors his ranking in the sport will not progress. Neither runners, golfers or football teams compete against themselves – they compete against the other competitors in that particular era.

Yes we lost 2 players but gained 7 internationals who have made our squad far stronger than it was before.
I love the way Doovdé is replying solely to the single poster who he has filtered. What plonker would go to that much trouble? . Its like puncturing your own tyres when facing a long journey.
For the record, i dont hate AVB – i just know he is not good enough for a club like ours.
Its no different to all of you questionning the quality of players we have, except that see seems to be acceptable. I dont get it .
This season alone i have stuck up against criticisms of Dempsey, Walker, Parker, Ade, Siggy, BAE, Defoe and probably a few others - yet i face all this stick simply because i criticise one person at the club.
It does seem a tad unreasonable but i'm big enough & ugly enough to take it.
Doovdé
Beat Man United at OT for the first time in the PL.
===================
Blackburn did the same in the 2011-2012 season - and went down.
We may have gained 4pts from Man Utd but its pointless when you only gain 1pt from Wigan. Again, who were relegated.
Keep logging out to read my posts though, wont you?
We're a club going backwards
Chicken is clearly agan of Harry, not Tottenham. Loves dishing it out of AVB for not getting top 4, yet conveniently forgets the terrible form of Harry two years in a row which cost us top4.
Clueless twât
Doovdé
Why bring Harry into it? I simply believe AVB is not good enough for our club.
I'm perfectly aware of where we fell down before. That aside, finishing 4th is better than 5th, and falling back to 5th is not being taken to a new level - its going back a level (i.e. to square one).
Keep logging out though....
To be fair, you could make an argument that we're going backwards if...

Going from 4th ranked in your sport to 5th in back to back seasons is generally considered as regress.

... only if you literally ignore everything that happened this season and don't bother to contextualize anything, because it's easier to say, yeah but we came 5th.
We had the spine of the team ripped out of us, a new manager, a whole host of new players unfamiliar with each other and what did we do? Got out highest points total.
How can you make such a definitive argument when we are clearly going to be in an even better position next season than this.
Backwards? If anything we're gearing up for a charge forward.
He's still trying to back up his nonsense argument. no one agrees with you ya melt. I don't know why you even bother coming on here, everything you post is garbage
Back to square one
What a ridiculous statement.
The Good
Why does it matter what changes we've had? Did you know that Brendan Rodgers is currently the 5th longest running Premiership manager?
Every club has a overhaul every season - why should we make excuses for it and not give that excuse to all other clubs?
It doesn't matter what you take into consideration, in any sport, if you finish below what you achieved the previous year - it is a backwards step.
If Murray falls from 4th to 5th world ranking in a season, other tennis players dont make excuses that he changed coaches or a golfer wont make excuses for changing caddy.
Its not even an anti-AVB / pro Harry thing, its a pure common sense thing.
You can apply this to anything you want. Maybe a salesman sold the 4th amount of double glazing windows last year, and this year he sells just the 5th most - he is now the 5th best seller at the company - he has gone backwards. It doesnt matter that he sold 90 last year and 100 this year - he has fallen in the table.
Success & failure is awarded by the league table - not how a club won points versus a different selection of teams & 100's of different players from the season before.
