That is because parents who know nothing about consoles will buy an xbox for their 12 year old who wants to play COD and fifa, most gamers will go PS4, about 80-90%, I wouldn't be loyal to microsoft they haven't looked at the big picture

I think the difference in sales will be massive in favour of Sony. I would say 70/30 or more in favour of Sony by the end of the first year on shelf.

You should bookmark this article and come back to it later.

Also, the example you used with Apple is a poor one because, as of right now, Apple are on the slide. People are finally giving up with their overpriced product; I reckon this is, in no small part, down to the large shift in public opinion of Apple products in the last few years.

If Sony and Microsoft were to release their products right now as they've been advertised, Microsoft would make devastating losses and Sony would clean up house.

SKA

Reduced price is obvious, but what I suggested could work if it was good enough.

Microsoft need an exclusive that will make people buy the console. Halo 2 and Halo 3 were both those. Halo 2, arguably, saved XBL. Halo 4 drifted away from the formula. Halo 5 could either make or break the ONE. If it's an amazing game, people will flock to it.

Haven't Apple increased market share over the last year?

I'm not an Apple fan, but apart from iTunes, they do make good products.

I really don't think Microsoft are as doomed as you all suggest.

40/60 is the worst I can see.

Apple are on a steady decline from their massive increase in early 2012.

Halo 5 will be average, the series has dried out, what do microsoft have right now? Titanfall? haha

Considering some of the exclusive titles the PS4 has, I really can't see yet another Halo game being the saviour for Xbox.

Titanfall just looks like another typical FPS game, not that interesting.

Apple make nice looking products than in terms of features are a lot worse than what rival companies offer, and yet people buy buy buy.

They're a very good example, actually. Compare the restrictions Apple impose on users compared to the freedom of Android. Exactly like MS used games vs Sony.

Granted, my argument isn't helped by the fact that people are moving over to Android in their droves now, but, Apple are still the majority and the recognised 'brand' that makes them the overall winner.

I guess we will find out even more when Gamescom comes around

Anyway, time for me to leave for a bit. Fun debate.

I don't think Microsoft are completely dead in the water as everyone seems to think, but they do need to fix up to prevent a slide.

Which is nothing like the differences between Xbox and Playstation, which are very similar products with a few features swinging one in favour of the other.

Android v Apple is function v style. Sony v Microsoft is console with some features v console with other features.

The only way in which the similarity is different is that both Apple and Microsoft have succeeding in beginning their own decline from the perch they sat on.

Sorry, it was meant to say 'but a few features are a lot worse than what rival companies offer' and I was referring to restrictive iTunes, lightning connector, etc, being a parallel to Microsoft's used games and DRM.

Sorry, I've written too much today, need to proofread more!

The problem with the Kinect is if someone is playing and you get annoyed you can say Xbox off and it will turn off or it will randomly do things because of the sounds from the TV, voice commands never works.

posted on 13/6/13

^wasn't a problem with kinect on the 360

It can distinguish between voices, I think.

posted on 13/6/13

Could you turn off your Xbox 360 with Kinect? but there will always be problems with voice commands.

Good article and agree 100%. I'm going to wait until a lot closer to the time to make my mind up and then there are only really two points that fully interest me - the quality of the games and the amount of dedicated servers.

posted on 13/6/13

If you mean the amount of dedicated servers for Xbox Live and PSN then Microsoft said Xbox Live on the Xbone will have 500,000 (I think) dedicated servers compared to the 30,000 on the Xbox 360 it has now.

I`m gonna buy an Xbox One and face it towards my TV so Microsoft can watch me play the PS4

Artist,

Have Sony said anything on that front yet?

I see a few issues overall for M$ and most end up with them looking very bad. I was a M$ fan and have now been completely won over by Sony, from very little game dev of M$ exclusives in the last few years of the consoles life (GOW10, Halo 15 and Forza 42.5 have got boring) and the continuing ripping off with gold subscription i was fully converted to Sony.

We then have the the biggest PR disaster in god knows how long, from "deal with it", "got no net buy a 360", and then to here buy this console to play fantasy American football, none really done any favours for the gamers out there.

And i can only see it getting worse - as a gamer who has seen every launch of big things online they all have one thing in common - server problems for the 1st few weeks/months of life. Just wait for the PR storm when Johnnys new xbox stops working on Xmas as it cant connect to the servers etc.

I agree with the general idea of what the OP is saying - but M$ forgot to look in the history books, it pretty much took Sony 4/5 years to recover from the £600 console, it took Steam 5 years or more for everyone to accept it. These things need to be integrated but slowly.

What M$ wants to do overall is a head of the infrastructure in place but they only have 1 set of people to blame for this - themselves.........
