Wasn't his dream to play for Madrid?

posted on 14/7/13

Probably. You're right that he has improved as a player, but you'd have to say that for one of the best players on the planet and maybe ever, he should be boasting more trophies.

He'd have won a lot more here due to the stability at the club and not having Barca in the way. And, as you say, there's no reason his game wouldn't have gone onto the next level here.

He's only won 3 trophies at Real right?

posted on 14/7/13

He's won 1 La liga title and 2 Kings Cups I believe.

And he knows that the likelyhood is that Barca will win next year's title too. That must be hard for a player as good as him to know that his team stands very little chance of winning the league despite the ridiculous talent Madrid have.

I don't Spanish football much but 3 sounds about right. Can't be much more.

I doubt he has any regrets, come on look at the weather in Madrid compared to Manchester!!!

Joking apart he may look back and wished he'd stayed a bit longer but at the the time is was right for player and club for him to go to Madrid, I'd love to see him back in a Utd shirt, will it happen??? We can only hope.

It's been 27-30 degrees in Manchester the last 2 weeks

Since he left United we have won 3 trophies too, 5 if you add the Community Shields.

We've won that without him. Imagine had he stayed.

With him we'd have won the last 5 titles pretty easily with Chelsea and City missing out.

It's purely hypothetical anyway because he did leave and he isn't coming back.

Best ever? Get real!

now you're just twisting his words. He meant one of the best ever

I think he'll always have regrets. If you work for a company you like and move on, you still think about it.

That's certainly a description well fit for Real, especially with Perez at the helm.

He's not signed a new deal yet has he?

Just imagine if this rumbles on until next summer and he's left with only 1 year left on his deal.

Add that to the strong probability of Barca retaining their La Liga title......maybe he'll say enough is enough. Scoring a goal a game doesn't feel anywhere near as good when your team isn't reaping the rewards come end of May.

We can live in hope that he decides to NOT sign an extension.

I wouldn't rule out a return to Utd at some stage in his career

If he renews his deal with Madrid this coming season, as is expected, then the dream is over I'm afraid.

Nah, Madrid are on a whole other level to United.

posted on 14/7/13

Sadly, he will never return to United, or only as an opposition player...but United did well with him and he will always be fondly remembered...forget the dreams....pure sentimentality.

Madrid are valued at $3.3bn and are 1st on world's richest club lists.

United are second, splitting the two spanish giants, Madrid and Barca, with an estimated value of $3.16bn

I would hardly class that as a "whole other level to United"

In fact judging by the last decade we've been far better than them. We've won more trophies, won the CL and performed miles better in Europe reaching more semi finals and finals than they have.

Madrid have an unfair advantage to United where as they get 25% of Spain's TV money where as United get about 6-7% in England.

as long as he doesnt sign a new contract i have hope

I wasn't Wumming btw. Madrid IMO are a far bigger draw for players and a bigger club in general than United. I actually have far more respect for United but that doesn't mean much.

Think of it this way...
Do you know where Arsenal are in terms of club value?

Answer = We're sandwiched between Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Now do you really think we have anything like the pulling power of either of those two clubs? Of course not.

posted on 14/7/13

A massive reason why Madrid have the greater pulling power IMO is the geographical location. Manchester is not an attraction especially especially for the South American players. It pi$$es down most of the year.
If we had 30+ degrees a lot of the year round and a more relaxing way of life we would IMO have just as great a pulling power
