You kind of sound a bit bitter Don, Benteke was always going to be offered better terms after the season he's had, yes a transfer request forced villa's hand but to say he took them to the cleaners is a bit OTT.

Maybe you're just annpyed he choose to stay at Villa ahead of goign to Spurs But sure you've got Ade to fall back on

Knee rash, please explain to me how Benteke turned us down? show me proof we made a bid. Bitter for what? A relegation battle don't even get me started on your side Liverpool, I could write ab essay.

Reckon Villa told him he weren't going unless a massive bid came in, so he just signed a bigger contract to suit both parties in the meantime

The thing is I don't mind Benteke signing a new deal because I think it's good for football, means football clubs are getting the upper hand on footballers. I'm just amazed at the bitterness pouring out from Villa fans (not just this site) in attacking spurs as a club when infact we are better than them on all levels

Don

I've said to you before you are probably my favourite poster so can i ask you this- did we not dodge a bullet missing out on this lad. he could be a one season wonder for all we know. Good luck to Villa next seaon, i've no porblem with them. Sounds harsh but we've bigger fish to fry than Villa.

Villa fans are the deluded ones ( some of them anyway) Bumble calls us a small club and says that Villa are the bigger club with a bigger fan base.

Neil Jung, alrite mate.... I would of loved Benteke to be fair and I'm just worried we are not going to rectify this striker issue we have. If we can get a striker in like Sodaldo or dare I say it Leandro then I will forget Benteke but I was a bit gutted he signed a contract for Villa

Well don I never said he turned you down now did I, it was widely reported you wanted to sign him, now of course thsi is media rumours but allot of your own fans seemed to think AVB had identified him, although the price was an issue.

But why would you get all in a tizzy over this if you were not interested in him, seems a bit odd you would go through articles Villa fans wrote, then go call them irrelevant has beens etc. if you were not in someway annoyed that Benteke had decided to stay at Villa.

Knee rash, read above please.... I'm not annoyed Benteke signed for Villa, I'm baffled as to why villa fans feel the need to attack us and bring down spurs when we are above them on all levels. If you think I am bitter over Aston Villa then you are just as deluded as the villa fans.

Can't blame them celebrating one of their players blackmailing them into a pay rise...it's not like they've anything else to cheer about

posted on 20/7/13

If Villa fans want to celebrate their best player signing a new contract then fine but don't start attacking spurs and our fans for it makes them come across rather bitter abs jealous wishing their club was in our position right now.

I'd give Villa a break..were'nt they one of the traditional big five.

If Modric had signed a new contract in 2012 after the Chelsea saga this board would have been exactly the same....

....just saying

On Modric, we would have been happy to retain his talent, but as I recall from 2011, when we rejected Chelsea, we were certainly unhappy about his attitude. And to Don's point, we certainly never said Chelsea or Real would have been a step down/smaller club in the present day.

Benteke used Spurs in order to get a better contract and really unless he was going to get a better financial deal from Spurs the move didn't make sense.

Historically Villa are bigger without a doubt than Tottenham as it's been well over 50 years since Tottenham won one of the top competitions

The problem with your comment don is that when benteke initially handed in a transfer request we had spurs fans coming on to our board and giving it large and saying how spurs are a bigger club and how poo we are, so don't give it out if you can't take it back comes to mind here.

Don.....

Spurs fans spend as much time on our boards as their own, and only since you have had the better of things

Brutus, explain how it doesn't make sense for Benteke to move to Spurs apart from money?

Do you think Benteke knows or cares about the history of either club?

I would contend that the chance to play with better players at a club that has consistently finished higher in recent years would be a great reason to move.

Aston Villa have won more major trophies than Spurs since Association Football was created, I won't disagree. Neither club has won the league recently, but you have won it more recently than us. Your stadium has more seats. All facts. But I don't think they mean much in terms of where a player wantsto play.

Trueish Bumble but

Chronic talks a lot of sense (Amongst the winding up)

a few others....

Yep

Think we have had more arguments recently with Spurs than the blouse

The only people who think Villa area a big club are their own fans.Apart from that no one cares about Villa. To the rest of the world they are the same as Southampton, Sunderland, Fulham etc.

Give any decent player in Europe or South America the choice of Villa or Tottenham and he'd choose Spurs everytime.

The problem with articles like this is the inevitably ignite a subjective debate about club stature. The OP comes across as bitter about the decision of Benteke and I understand as there are few striker left available who would join. Perhaps Cardoso (sp?). In terms of being bitter about the success of tottenham, my first thought is what success? In my lifetime Villa have won the league, the European Cup, The Super Cup and the league cup. And that's as far as I go with history because let's face it, once the next game kicks off all that has come before is history. And to be honest neither Spurs nor Villa will have any meaningful success in the next few years. So good luck to Spurs it will be very tough for them to attain 4th with the new found finances of Arsenal now the stadium is paid off, and they will surely be embarking on stadium plans soon themselves. After all we are all pretty much playing for the last 15 places
