Madrid haven't paid anything.
Ronaldo moved 5 years ago, inflation!!
Plus Spurs do not want to sell, and have no reason to. United were more than happy to take the £80m.
If their first offer is £80 million (if) then surely if they really want him they'd pay more?
Whether you or I think he's worth it, Spurs only have one duty and that is to milk Real for as much as possible.
I know that... Obviously anyone would have taken the 80m! But asking for 120m (if its true), refusing 81m?
Greedy greedy greedy horrible club!!!
I say fair play to the guy. What's the point in £80m if you can't use it to buy better players than the person you are selling?
If they were in the CL, it would be a different story... But they aren't, so need to do everything they can to keep the players that actually can put them in that top bracket.
Bale's worth nowhere near those amounts, his marketability is nowhere near Ronaldo's either, but if Madrid are daft enough to pay it, you can't blame levy for wanting to screw every last penny out of them.
Before anyone says, "they can buy four £20m players" life is not like that.... That is exchanging 1 wage for 4.
55-60m at absolute best!!!
Imagine how many average defenders and midfielders Spurs could sign at the expense of their strikeforce for £120m!!!
I'm afraid since Chelsea, city, PSG etc inflated the market by buying dross on stupid transfer fees this was always going to happen. So when a top player is moving it comes crazy money and wages.
I thought spurs didn't have defenders and midfielders...
They are selling there only player!!!
Bale won't be as good in Spain, as he is in England.
You're right, he should encourage his sale and sell him for £20m to Utd
55-60m at absolute best!!!
===========
What does that mean? Spurs don't want to sell, and that is a price that will encourage bids.
If you do not want to sell and do not need to sell you put a price on a player that will discourage bids. £120m should do it.
Bales left Chadli... Way ahead of you mate! I already spotted my epic fail
80 mill is ridiculous for a guy whose won nowt...
Spurs don't want to sell.
I see nothing wrong here from Spurs other than completely overvaluing their player to put off potential buyers (even though these are probably just figures the media has caught out of thin air).
The ridiculousness of it all comes if Real Madrid are willing to pay these stupid fees. In which case, more fool them.
But he destroyed Inter Milan twice!!!
I personally think they should sell Bale this summer because what's the difference between selling him now and next summer?
They'll still have to rebuild their team when he goes. Imagine if they keep him and he breaks his leg on the first day of the season?
Sell him for £90-100 million and try very hard to invest in a few top class players. Just one top winger who needs a fresh start (Nani?) a top striker (Rooney or Yilmaz?) and a decent centre back (Garay?)
what's the difference between selling him now and next summer?
========
Potentially Champions League football.
Who says they will sell him next season?
Realistically, if Real/Spurs come to an agreement on Bale around £80m, how much does that value Ronaldo and Messi at? At that price it seems he'll be valued as the 3rd best player in the world. He's a good player, but seriously? I think the money Mr Levy didn't spend on a striker last season went on some sort of Super Global Hype machine.
Just going off his stats last season (and I know stats aren't the be all and end all), they weren't all that much better than Rooney, or even Walcott. How much would we be selling ourselves short if Rooney did eventually leave this summer for the sort of figures (£30m-£35m) mentioned?
Although I still think we might not loose Rooney Robb, I'd have no problems selling him to the spurs!!! It's Chelsea I'd be gutted selling him too!
The difference would be that they may be in the Champions League and therefore the money would be of use to them next season as they can attract more players with the money than they could now.
The danger is they don't qualify for the Champions League and Bale obviously realises that he cannot continue to be deprived of it and Levy cannot even hope to demand such a high-fee a year on, well surely not anyway?
Bale could potentially become a great player, but at the moment he's a fair bit away from the level Ronaldo and Henry achieved in the prem. The fact he's british adds to the hype, hence the player of the year awards.
