I don't mind watching Brazil as at least Neymar is good fun. Suarez I don't really enjoy watching that much when he's fully fit never mind when half fit and Cavani don't get me started on him.

Neymar is a caant

But good to watch. Fernandinho in for Paulinho and brazil may be a bit better to watch.

Having Ramires, Pauilinho, Hulk, Jo, Fred and Wilner in the side renders Neymar's entertainment value redundant.

Still dont get why folks on the Haven rate Cavani.
So much potential however a massive under-achiever on the big stage.

He mis-controlled every single pass yesterday.

Sissoko playing right wing for France. Dechamps taking coaching tips from Pardew.

Sissoko is a strange player.

If Brazil did win this World Cup, would they be the poorest side ever to win it? And also, what stead would that put Neymar in? Still only 22, already one of the country's highest-ever scorers, and in normal circumstances at least 2 World Cups ahead of him with better teammates than he's got this time round.

On a different note ... C Ronaldo.
You can't knock his club form, but for Portugal...?
Looking through their tournament reacord the other day, I noticed that in almost every tournament bar the 2008 Euros, when Portugal have gone out it's always been either 0-0 and pens or 1-0 to their opponents.

As far a big games go, this has got to be pretty damning evidence against a guy who is supposedly capable of winning games by himself.

Seriously, anyone comparing him to all-time greats such as Maradona should have their tongues cut out and their fingers amputated, or alternatively be put in a room with Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan's fasted for a week.

That's a fair point about Ronaldo. He's flattered to deceive in tournaments given his ability.

Though I think, as good as he is, he relies on service a lot more than people are willing to admit - especially the people on the Ronaldo side of the Messi/Ronaldo debate.

He's clearly injured, but and his performances have been poor, but that Portugal midfield don't seem capable of picking his runs out - Moutinho just kept hitting the first man every time he tried to release him.

On the international stage I doubt we'll see another Maradona, does that mean he hasn't or cannot be surpassed? I guess it depends on your methodology.

Look at this stuff about Messi having to do a Maradona to surpass Maradona. I rate the international stage as a necessary level to perform on to be among the true greats of all time, but should every player's international career be judged by the way people have performed before?

Should past greats' club form be judged by the careers Messi and Ronaldo have had? Matter of opinion I guess. Nobody is ever gonna agree. Fun debate nonetheless.

utd paid way too much for him

he's a good player but not worth £29M

posted on 26/6/14

Good player wouldn't say it's a good deal, shouldn't cost that much.

Yeah that will be a joke for Shaw. I would like us to sign him, though, purely from a footballing perspective.

cant understand why prem clubs pay so much over the odds for players who aint that great

posted on 26/6/14

The clubs are rich so they have bargaining power.

posted on 26/6/14

for the money utd have paid on herrera and shaw you coulda built 2 atleti madrid teams

posted on 26/6/14

Yeah that's true. How many Atleti teams could you build with the money you've spent since Uncle Flo took over?

It is a good deal for United for obvious reasons.

Yes, he is not worth that amount but Bilbao are notorious for not budging on valuation of their players and for protracted transfer dealings.

He is also in a CL club and making the transfer to a non-CL club. Sure, like many i too want glamorous names like Fabregas et al, but they are not keen and will cost much more. Ffs, we bough a much worse player (Fellaini) for about the same player.

Also, United made a pig's ear of his signature a year ago, he is a better layer now IMO
Moreover, any United fan will tell you we will take any half-decent CM player now. To actually buy one is a minor miracle.

Also, what United need is a player of his 'personality' and as DTKF said, it is not much money to a club of United's ilk.

PS

A bit rich for a club that just spend 80m on Bale and 33m on Illaramendi to carp about cost.

FFs, we bought a much worse player (Fellaini) for about the same money*
