Yep, especially our two CL finals against Barca and our 3-2 victory vs Bayern . He's generally decent against Chelsea though, I'll grant you that.

He was our best player IN Germany of that tie and was inexplicably subbed with a quarter of an hour to go and then we conceded two quick goals.

And against Barca he was up against the best midfield of all time and even then had a good enough game in the second one.

But the best midfield of all time have been proven to be beatable with a midfield of dynamism and skill, and no he was awful in both (not as bad as park I'll grant you that). Against bayern at home, he was outshone by Gibson and at fault for Cilic 's goal that let them back in.

Yes, they're important but having a better GK, defence and attack always trumps a good midfield alone.

We had a better defence and better strikers (did they even have a striker?) but their midfield was unreal.

Strikers tend to score when the midfield supply them. In 09 we had Oshea Vida Rio and Evra and Ronaldo rooney and tenez in attack. That's better than Toure and Pique I think it was with sylvinho in for Alves I believe and indeed Messi + etoo

I agree that we could still win the league, at a stretch, but we'd be sitting ducks in the champions league.

Carrick had his pants pulled down badly on both games. Showing why he will never be a top bracket player.

Against the best he was chasing shadows and had no effect whatsoever.

Yeah, I remembered Eto'o after I posted. Villa didn't really play as a CF though did he? He always just seemed like another midfielder in their system imo.

In any case, Barca destroyed teams for a good while due to the power of their midfield alone imo.

Banega performs better than Carrick has against Real and Barca.

Spurs have the best central midfield in the league. United, City and Chelsea still have a lot of improving to do before they can compete in midfield with them, never mind the European elite.

Agreed however like I said before apart from their left midfield they have a lot of catching up to do to get near winning the league.

I still think Carrick is better than any one of spurs' midfielders.
