brennie you make some valid points about brits abroad lad
Qatar are obviously only hosting it because they're rich.
So, they'll have to build ten or so 50k stadiums. Are they going to be used every saturday after that? The world cup should have a legacy. Look at Germany, have the best stadiums in the world packed out every week because of the world cup.
if fans can get straight into an air conditioned stadium directly from air conditioned transport without having to queue or wait outside then a summer world cup in qatar is (just about) viable, but people will have to spend their entire stay inside in the hotel except for when they go to the games. if fans can't get straight into an air conditioned environment directly from the transport, then it is not remotely feasible.
if you look at the metro system in dubai, walkways from the trains are normally inside and go through tunnels directly into malls (or to some other exit point). stadiums would have to be designed on a similar basis, but the idea of 50,000+ people arriving at about the same time on metro trains and going down acccess corridors to take them into the ground strikes me as a tough task for designers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You make it sound like people in incinerate if they happen to step outside in the summer in Qatar?
Im am sure, just like most hot countries, the games will be played in the late evening after sunset or something.
The fact is,it should never have been given to Quatar in the first place .We all know that ,and we all know that there are far more deserving places where it could be held, and where it would help a lot more people .F I F A bowed down to the politico/economic pressures put on them by self serving politicians, and they should all accept the guilt, and hang there heads in shame !
I've no issue with a world cup being played in Qatar. I just think they shouldn't of got it after bidding under false pretences.

to be honest, it's those who voted for them that you should be looking at.
As I've said most of the stadiums will be taken down at the end and sent abroad. The ones that remain will be a Massive step up from those that currently exist and so should leave a great legacy imo
Either way the vote should be voided and Qatar should propose a winter World Cup.

You're keeping that head firmly buried in the sand to avoid other people's comments.
As already pointed out certain stadiums will be disassembled and donated to less wealthy football nations to help them develop their own football leagues.
If you are so keen on legacy, well there it is
We'll agree to disagree Brennie
First of all, I don't want to talk about 'brown paper bags' or corruption
---
I'm not surprised, it undermines your whole argument. I'm sure they will host a decent tournament but they didn't get it on merit.
Qatar World Cup 2022 - Good Idea
--------------------------------------------------------
Had you been one of the 'chosen few' that were allowed to participate in the vote then I guess it was a great idea as your wallet would end the day fuller than it started
As has been said previously, despite the time difference, Australia would've been a very good choice.
Oh well. That's life I guess.
I genuinely think the positives are numerous. Everyone assumes corruption, but to be fair there's no real evidence of it...
you dont bid for a "summer world cup" because that would presume there is a "winter world cup" to bid for as well.
you bid for a "FIFA World Cup".
And can people stop looking at the world cup 9 years from now when brazil is still struggling to complete the infrastructure for theirs... 10 months away

a bit of hot weather

you dont understand what it;s like in the middle east in summer. you can bearly go outside. even at night, if you go outside your clothes will be wet through with sweat within seconds.
No real evidence of corruption?
There's plenty if you care to look.
brennie mate, its unfortunate that russia got the world cup ahead of england because then everything would have been fine... we could have the world cup 2022 on the moon, people would not complain.
fact is, again, a topic with such small insignificance (consider its 9 years away) and how it will be run is now being criticised by everyone (in england).
i for one think it will be a great world cup because uninterested parties will not be going. all the unfortunate side show that comes with a world cup will be absent because very few people that dont have tickets to games will actually go.

No. I've just spent a lot of time abroad, and I've seen it. As an example Brits that come to the middle east these days have no respect for the local culture. They dress provocatively and act inappropriately, especially with regards to alcohol.... And these are people that actually live there, not just tourists
Whereas all those that come to live in Britain are angels
@robsons brow. I've lived there for 24 years. I know exactly how hot it gets, but places are well equipped to deal with it. You don't just evaporate as soon as you go outside. Also you can't just not go somewhere because OT doesn't have perfect football weather. Think of the humidity in Brazil next year

the locals are still trying to work out what the culture is. they were living in huts in the desert 40 years ago.
as expats are in a large majority, it's inevitable that the developing culture will be partly modelled on them.

are you suggesting that it would be possible to play a world cup in summer in qatar without the games being played in a manufactured climate ?
