Qatar World Cup 2022 - Good Idea

posted on 10/8/13

Before they began the voting for the 2022 World Cup, it should have been made plain to all the member nations that it would have to be switched to the Winter, as it will be to hot to play football their in the Summer. So the way I see it for 3yrs all member nations of both football bodies will have to find ways of changing the start and finish of the various domestic and European competitions, so as to make it fair for all the clubs involved both big and small.

If it is switched the big clubs like Man City, Chelsea, etc. could end up loosing most of their 1st team squads to the World Cup, and this would not be fair on them at all. So you would either after to start the season earlier and then shut it down for 3months to allow the players a break or start in March and play the season right through to the end of October, thus giving the International players a break before they join up with their respective countries.

You may not bid for a summer or winter world cup Stonfacd but you obtain it under the assumption that it will be held at the close of the majority of domestic seasons.

Any other proposal would have to be addressed in the initial bid and it wasn't. Hope that clears things up.

As for Brazil, I can see the whole tournament being a farce. The worse thing is Brazil's infrastructure is twice that of Russia. I think we're going to see the next two tournaments beset with problems.

I actually have more faith Qatar will put on a good show.

how long does a world cup last ? about 3 weeks isnt it ?

Also you can't just not go somewhere because OT doesn't have perfect football weather. Think of the humidity in Brazil next year

I was in Las Vegas about a month ago... It was 53 C in the day time for 2 of the 3 days I spent there. That didn't stop us, or all the 1000s of people that had come to Vegas from around the world, carrying on doing what we came to do

It's obviously a crazy idea. Is it really worth it to end up giving a few stadiums to Africa?

Surely if Qataris are as passionate as you say they'd be used.. either that or there's a much more worthwhile place to do it, with a population that would genuinely benefit from the facilities left behind.

Australia would have been a good choice.

PS Is there a Qatari football league??

Do they play games only in the winter??

humidity's a big factor in the middle east.

i would play golf through the summer, teeing off around 3pm and playing through the afternoon.

that was in air conditioned buggies and with chilled water on every tee.

all you had to was get out of the buggy to play the shot and get back in again.

after 9 holes you would be absolutely knackered.

It should have gone to Australia.

We deserved it 1000 times more than Qatar.

This system of paying each member country sustenance money in return for the votes that keep the leaders in office has been operated since João Havelange became FIFA’s president in 1974 and made Blatter his assistant.

'Bales left Chadli' was good enough to post this. Kinda screeews any argument you have 'Brennie'.
There is absolutely no good reason for Qatar to be holding a World Cup Final (think about it ffs!).
Crooks, the lot of them

I don't care how well they will care for the supporters. Or what the infrastructure will be like. Or what local laws will apply to people once they go over there. I REALLY don't care what religion is or is not involved.

The only thing I care about is that fact that playing in Qatar gives us two choices; a summer competition played in temperatures approaching 50c. Or moving the World Cup to the winter. Neither of these are acceptable, and either should have been enough to rule Qatar out of making a successful bid.

Rerun the bidding process properly, and get a country in that can run the competition at the correct time. And sack Blatter, the moron that made the original decision that has landed us in the ridiculous mess.

Exactly, you'd think the WC was being hosted in the fiery pits of hell the way some people are going on a bout the weather in Qatar.

I went to America a couple of years ago as part of a soccer coaching programme, we worked in the southern states where the temperature was between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit (about 23-32 degrees C) and yes it was very hot but small children could handle running around in the heat so i think grown ups should be ok.

Bruce

Can I just start off by saying thankyou for getting rid of the random b out of your name

Secondly i've always wanted to do that coaching thing in the US. Was it as fun as I imagine?

you have no idea how different that is to the middle east in the summer.

you're talking 45 degrees with high humidity.

there is no comparison whatsoever.

My brothers mate just got a girl pregnant in Dubai, they had to fly home because apparently shed be arrested because she isn't married?

Pathetic rule/ law if strictly true. What are they going to do with all the half baked Ditch girls?

I certai lu wouldn't want to go there for a World Cup. I went to Germany and it was an amazing experience but I must say the beer was the one thing I saw in every bodies hand there. Beer + desert heat = sunstroke or dehydration. Feck that.

That's he only important factor, and I agree. I find it amusing when it came out that the testing results were for winger conditions.

So even with this 'amazing' outdoor air conditioning, it's still 27 degrees in the stadium, and that's shade temperature.

I've been to Egypt and the outback in Oz, if the temperature if anything like that, the whole thing is a farce, end of story.

posted on 10/8/13

Sorry. Was out shopping.

This is the whole point of the article. The air won't even be that hot. They'll be playing at night, when it's cooler, and they'll have air conditioning making it even cooler. 27C is a lot cooler than temperatures at past world cups, so i don't see what the problem is.

Also, to answer someone earlier, it's not about ignoring cultural values. In the middle East it's actually Illegal and arrestable to commit these kind of acts, as seen with busby's story of the pregnancy. As long as it doesn't fall during Ramadan it should go well

it doesnt cool down til after midnight though.

cant see the games kicking off that late.

posted on 10/8/13

What sort if times are kick off? Must be strange for players to have to play late at night / train at night during a WC.

posted on 10/8/13

It's desert heart we are talking about, they aren't going to be kicking off at 2 AM surely <argh>

Also, Qatar, have they even been to a WC before? Excuse my ignorance but I don't think it's fair on the rest of the bidding countries who put a lot more into football day in day out, not just for a glamorous 3 weeks.

posted on 10/8/13

Robson. I have to disagree with you. It's only unbearable at night if there's no breeze, as it is anywhere that gets 35C+

It cools down well before midnight It just doesn't cool down that much. Also as I've said numerous times, nobody's going to jjust be standing around outside aimlessly. There will be plenty of shaded places where it's fine.

===================

you dont need shade in the evening because the sun's gone down

as you know, the main problem is the evenings is humidity (aside from it usually still being well over 30 until after midnight)

to suggest that it's possible to have a game of international football on a summer evening in the middle east is frankly ridiculous.

it's too uncomfortable to sit outside for a meal most nights.

posted on 10/8/13

But again you've missed the point which is thata it will be air conditioned, maybe it perfectly hospitable :/

posted on 10/8/13

well yeah, if it''s air conditioned it could be viable i agree.

as i said a while ago though, you cant have people queueing outside, and i dont see how you can get 50,000+ people in to the ground from their transport without them being exposed to the elements.

maybe 10,11pm kos (which would be ideal for european audiences anyway) with air conditioned stadiums would be alright though.
