wembley singles was ace.

keeper used to kick it out to start, the ball would go miles, one over excited kid would run after it and return with the ball knackered.

you'd take it off of him, turn round and score . . next round

That's coz unlike you Aussie gits & Southern ponces, we could actually count to higher than 10

It's ok, I know you're all just jealous that you didn't play our version in your youth, and you're now going to go outside and try to play it with your mates.

our kerbsie rules

you threw the ball, if you hit the kerb you got a point, 2 is you caught it without it touching the floor.

once you hit the kirb you would go intot he middle of the road and continue until you missed.

if you missed and your opponent got the ball, he then threw it at you, if the ball hit you before you made it back to your kerb you lost all your points.

At school we played (like everyone else) wembley and world cup in the playground at lunch.

Two observations I hope people are familiar with.

1) There was always a raggedy, half torn away leather football that was just there at lunchtime. Nobody seemed to own it but we just played with it every day till the orange tubing used to stick out and the ball died.
And then the next day there was another ball there for us which still belonged to no-one.

2) In the winter months some mentalist would bring in one of those sponge footballs and like crazy people we played it when there were puddles and ended up getting pelted with the wet sponge ball and we'd go to classes after lunch looking like we all pisssed ourselved

Tell me everyone knows what i'm talking about?

But if it's about lack of skill, mine might make me one of the youngest ja606ers to have sustained a serious football injury. Wasn't even two when I broke my thigh bone playing (trying to play) footy. Had to spend two months in hospital with both legs in traction. Fortunately I've got no recollection of it myself.

---

Ouch! There was a lad who had one of those bright orange bibs on that you use at training, anyway, a wasp flew down in to his top and stung him like 30 times and he had to be rushed to hospital.

I was injured once in a match, they came on with a bucket of ice cold water and soaked me with it! I was never injured again as far as they knew.

Only real injury I've had was a pulled muscle, I tried to walk it off, then went back to play again, tried to jump and just collapsed in a heap Walked with a limp for weeks!

Anyone played killer?

3 lives

1st go is from the penatly spot, you score and you move to the next line

2nd - 18 yard box

3rd - Edge of the semi circle outside the 18 yard box

4 - Walk 5 paces back everytime you score till lives gone

We had a forfeit in things like 45s, the loser(s) had to do the "line up" - Where they all line up, and the winner(s) booted the ball from 8 yards at them.

Are you kidding? Karl Henry was the reason Wolves managed to stay up that one season (I can't remember if they actually stayed up in any seasons)

Even though I've never supported United I saw quite a lot of them when I was young (a long time ago) cos a few of my mates supported them and Spurs is a long way from here. Without doubt the best player I have ever seen live was George Best. I remember seeing him score a goal against Sheffield United where he dribbled the ball through the entire team (or seemed to) which was on the opening sequences of Match of the Day for years afterwards.

Best (sic) praise I got for him was from my dad.
He said whenever Bestie played at WHL, he would be like inside his own half. A tackle would go in which he would ride, and then he was on the halfway line. And then my dad used to think to himself : he's gonna go and score now.

Not been many players whose ability can instil such fear in opposition supporters.

Ronaldo was similar to that.

regardless of where he recieved the ball you knew he had the ability to score.

i miss those days

"Ronaldo was similar to that."

His 40 goal season was very akin to that.

Maradona in his prime was another one like that.
