Exciting times?

For me I resent the wastefullness of the salaries that are received (and i concede this might end up sounding a little jealous in the end). This isn't aimed at any of our players in particular or to say that they should play for the love of the game or take wage cuts if they don't have to, I don't think I would in the same situation, I might take a more medium term view on it though thinking it would be better to earn 20K a week for the next 4 years then 40K for one year and have the uncertainty of what to do/where to go next.

But what I resent is that they have an opportunity to set themselves up for life by investing a portion of those salaries in businesses, property, or whatever they desire, they have so many people around them like agents and even managers for some individuals and somebody should be teaching them how to plan for their futures if their not savvy enough to do it themselves. There is a small trend in professional darts started by Phil the Power of investing prize money in property, because it's not a guaranteed income for life.

Instead we get hit with articles about how they spend all their cash during their playing careers and end up in depression, and then believe the footballing community should be doing more to help them after retirement.

What a load of tosh!

Jealousy is an interesting but debatable word for it. Personally, my feeling are that I'm disappointed that someone who gets to play football for a living won't take a wage cut so that they can continue to play football rather than just training for a living. These players are in a sport and entertainment industry, the kind man people dream of being in, and surely know that they're being paid by customers yet they're not trying their best to compete or entertain them. The fact that they probably won't earn so much money again shouldn't be relevant - people can retrain at any time and they have the opportunity to invest the money they earn anyway. To me, their actions now show contempt to the club and to the fans.

So I wouldn't describe my feelings as jealousy, more of disappointment and bafflement that someone can be in such a privileged position and to have a natural talent to even get to play league football and then seemingly not appreciate that. Meanwhile, as the club battles in the league and fans continue forking out to try to help them up the league with their support and money, these players just take, often with selfish chips on their shoulders, believing that the club, fans or world owe them more. I find it very difficult to respect anyone who does this, and my desire to see Leicester City improve through their leaving (or alternatively deciding that they do give a damn after all and actually trying their hardest) is far stronger and more relevant than any sense of envy.

I appreciate it's difficult to declare "I'm not jealous!" over an internet forum without looking like you're protesting too much, but believe me when I say that there's far, far more to it than just that.

TOTF - I'd love to be able to honestly say that in their position I'd be off to another club so I could play regularly but I can't. £40k/20k a week is misleading - over the year it equates to about £2M/£1M. In other words a million quid more for the year. This with a background that any time there could be the career ending cruciate ligament injury so I suspect I'd be seriously tempted to stay put. It's not as if they will leave a Drogba or Giggs-esqe legacy whatever they do in the twilight of their careers.

'Exciting Times'

I seem to remember that phrase mentioned in these parts some time ago. In relation to emotions called 'ambition' and 'excitement' but for the life of me, I cannot remember what they felt like

Its actually similar to a Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times"

"Exciting Times"

Ah but these ARE exciting times around here Foxy, we've managed to retain our most successful manager of the last decade, kept all our best players that many expected to go and have a young but experienced and settled squad.

To top that our excellent management team have continued on from the successes of last season and we already look to be one of the teams to look out for this season yet again under NP

What an exciting season we are in for......

"Continued on from the successes of last season"

Oh True it was wonderful last season our slid from the top scraping into the playoffs on goal difference and failed to make the final.

Oh please bring me more of that

Oh lordy, where to start with this pile of p-ss

"we've managed to retain our most successful manager of the last decade"

Indeed. Because, let's face it, Craig Levein, Rob Kelly, Martin Allen, Gary Megson, Ian Holloway and Paolo Sousa provided some seriously stiff competition for that title

"kept all our best players that many expected to go"

Like Anthony Knockaert, you mean? Our most skillful player, who cannot get a place in the side thanks to Pearson's lousy 8-0-2 formation?

"and have a young but experienced and settled squad"

Slightly less young (Marshall gone) and less experienced (Konchesky transferred to the naughty corner) than it was at the beginning of the season....

"To top that our excellent management team have continued on from the successes of last season"

I think Nev has perfectly ridiculed that particular comment sufficiently

"and we already look to be one of the teams to look out for this season yet again under NP"

Yep, I hear the likes of QPR and Watford are quaking at the prospect of Team Pearson's tactics of defending for 85 minutes and fluking the odd goal on the rare occasions we break out of our own half

"What an exciting season we are in for......"

Indeed. I for one cannot wait for the International Watching Paint Dry tournament later this year

They should create a new film documenting City's recent managerial history with a star-studded cast of Craig Levein, Rob Kelly, Martin Allen, Gary Megson, Ian Holliway and Paolo Sousa-

Ha ha, I wondered if Foxy would stick his head out of his foxhole !

You seem to have missed Sven off your list of past managers there Foxy, still probably the less said the better I guess, such an abject failure we'd all be better wishing was never associated with LCFC.

Still, look on the bright side, if NP keeps this up he'll be getting a contract extension by Xmas, then foxy will have to stay in his foxhole playing all by himself !

Well that's because, although Sven's period was ultimately unsuccessful, his reign was *in my opinion* the most exciting period in the club's recent history. Certainly since Micky Adams got us promoted in 2003. I'll always have a soft spot for Sven and will review his reign with fondness. If that is all right by you?

If we carry on playing the style and standard of football we have been so far this season, nobody will care because we'll all have died from sheer boredom.
