Agree with you tatter we were set up wrong on Saturday. I didn't go to the Port Vale game but evidently we finished that game with a similar formation and it worked but we never got going on Saturday. The reassuring thing was that Jackett acknowledged it wasn't good enough so he will surely not repeat that formation tomorrow.
Sigurdarson certainly deserves a chance and it will be interesting to see if Kenny is bold enough to play him, Doyle, Griffiths and Sako. That would be a very attack minded team and make it a very open game. But if we did play that way you would probably bet on Wolves scoring more than Walsall and winning about 4-2.
Familiar pattern emerging - shoehorning players in to keep everybody happy.
Hope he isn't wavering in his ruthlessness. If he is, then look forward to another three years of inconsistency.
I've watched the game and can't disagree with your appraisal, Tatts. But, as I said to someone else; if he makes a mistake and we still get the three points, then there's not much to worry about.
Looks like perton has viewed the thread, as you only have 1
A win is a win Cyp and KJ hasn’t had much chance to experiment so far so I’m not going to go overboard if and when he tries something new. Just hope we go back to 4-4-2 with two CBs @ CB & wingers on the wing tomorrow night.
Couldn’t be Puppet he still has me filtered.

Yeah, agreed, "this square pegs in round holes" formation really p isses me off. McCarthy would never have attempted anything like that.
I was going to start a thread titled "square pegs etc....". I think KJ did indeed fall in to the trap many recent encumbents of his post have done in trying to get all the in form players and new signings on to the field at once.
The advantages of Davis over Henry are his mobility and ability to pick a creative pass, these seemed stifled on Saturday and he obviously wasnt comfortable with his role. Evans too didnt look happy and hardly contributed.
The team needs either Ismail or Sigurdarson on the right and of the two Siggy had more impact of the bench at least on Saturday.
Ikeme
Doherty
Stearman
Batth
Golbourne
Sako
Davis
McDonald
Sigurdarson
Doyle (c)
Griffiths
Ricketts, Ismail, Foley, McCarey, Evans, Cassidy, McAlinden
That team seems reasonable, Oldgold, but I can't see Ricketts being left out.
Personally, I felt that Golbourne was brought-in as Sako's replacement as KJ expected Sako to leave. When he didn't (and I'm glad he is staying), KJ feels that having paid 700K for Golbourne (a large outlay in Div 1), he must play him, hence the need to change the formation.
I thought that Golbourne did OK on Saturday, but personally, I feel that Ricketts will come in at left back with Goldy on the bench.
We also seemed to lack energy in midfield and as Edwards is now fit.......
I'm just glad Doyle scored. Hopefully the 'Haters' will be off his back for the next 8-10 games where he can shove it down their throats again, with another goal.
I think Ricketts will be back at LB OG and that Davis should be rested.
Ikeme
Doherty
Stearman
Batth
Ricketts
Sako
Evans
McDonald
Sigurdarson
Doyle
Griffiths
Don't think Edwards is the answer, the midfield has looked good in most games, just sounds like the formation Saturday created the problem.
A left back dilemma, and a good one, not the usual lesser of two evils type
Seems that the last two games have been a case of shoehorning Golbourne into the side, left mid and left back, get the feeling KJ rates this guy...........when Hagi scored that goal at the 94 world cup he was hailed a genius, Golbourne barely gets a mention

Strange line up Tatts. Thought you prefer Davis over Evans?
Can't get into my gmail account i hate passwords
would probably go with the same line up but maybe a 4 -3-3......i dont think we have to play out and out wingers, just intelligent players.
I’ve been very pleased with him so far this season Tara and had him as player of the month for August but he was back to his worst on Saturday so drop him from the roster and bench him for the ding-dong derby.
Do you want the game sent somewhere else Cinci?
Agree Tatts, although I thought he didn't have a good game against Crawley. I just thought you liked the holding midfielder role in your teams?
I shall give it another stab later, got to head out now, but if i can't get into it just send to the email account.
Cheers for your efforts by the way, much appreciated........how soon do you send them normally? I may start avoiding the score and watching ''as live''......no fear of stumbling upon the score on the bbcsports site thats for sure, not unless we put a Real or Borrussia in front of our name.
Not necessarily Tara, when it’s needed yes but not a prerequisite.
Davis will be important to us this season but when you’ve got an embarrassment of riches a couple of below par performances is going to cost you your place. Evans looked very good earlier in the season (looked totally lost on Saturday but the whole midfield did) and McDonald looks a good signing so lets see them start tomorrow.

Cinci,
I normally get them 6am Sunday morning. Takes an hour to download/unzip. Then about 8-9 hours to upload and then an hour to finalize. So normally between 4-5pm Sunday.
Tatts.
Was thinking about this the other day. Why don't we forget about a DM and go all out attack, should be easy enough to do and would think we would have too much for the other teams, but then thought, when we go up how this would effect us in the Championship. We would be use to those tactics but don't think they would work.
I think Davis has done really well this season and I am not sure I would drop him on the basis of one poor performance.
We look a team that have goals in us even when like Saturday we are not playing well. Griffiths missed three decent half chances on Saturday so although it would have been a complete injustice we could easily have ended up with a bigger win.
If I were to have a concern it would be that we didn't bring another centre back in during the summer. Sako and Doyles retention means we have more than enough going forward. I think ricketts and golbourne are both ok left backs. But we have tried Stearman, Elokobi and Ricketts alongside Batth now and I can't say I was impressed by any of them
Tara I don’t see any reason why two central midfielders with decent engines can’t cope with supporting the attack when we’re in possession and supporting the defence when we aren’t (preferably by pressing rather than falling back) and interchange and cover each other.
The next time we play a midfielder whose only role is to destroy I hope it’s because we’ve had two promotions.
Stearman has definitely looked the best option so far in my opinion DJ. I know you’re far from being a fan of him but I think he’s the best we have at the moment and wouldn’t be worried if he’s a regular starter this season.
