Give him top money and 9/10 he will buy a top player.

Give me money and 9/10 I will buy a top player.
But in the league he took Liverpool closer to the title then they have done for 20 years.
Took him about 5 years to do that and that season they finished trophy less anyway whilst bottling a huge point lead around Christmas time, Rafa isn't in Mourinho's league at all.
spunkrd a lot of money on dross to challenge once and 'phacted' it all up.

This is quite possibly the most ridiculous statement I've seen on here in a while. Yes "Clever", "dross" such as Torres, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Reina, Alonso, Lucas, Agger were bought to the club. Yes he bought a few duds but certainly the quality that be brought through is still evident at the club to a lesser extent even today
No one should doubt Benitez's ability as a manager.
Look at his record. But for some unfortunate turn of events he would have secured us the title.
As ever, I wish him continuing success.
A great manager.
FSB - what I'm saying is that it's a continus theme with rafa. As a cup manager he's great but nothing more, and for every good player he buys, there's 5 players that are dross.
Rob I forgot that and credit for that job on Spain but the premier league is much better than the Spanish league and in his time only one challenge and that's with a gerrard in his pomp alonso macherano Torres reina - not good enough.
Mourinho's a Cheque Book manager pure and simple.
-------------------------
how much did he spend winning the uefa cup and then the following season the champions league with porto???
how much did he spend getting uniaio de leiria 5th in his first season and then 3rd 1 point ahead of porto with a few games to go?
Billions???
Please, people dont like mourinho cause of his games in the press to take the spotlight onto him and let the players get on with playing. Also people dont like his extremely effective brand of football claiming its antifootball, but when chelsea knocked out barca 2 seasons ago playing what looked like moruinho autopilot, everyone was praising the fighting spirit of the team.
Hypocrites
I have said for years I rate Rafa not at the very top but a very good manager.
Benitez was in a position where if he bought a player that wasn't good it was highlighted pretty quickly
Mourinho/Chelsea bought other top clubs targets (ala willian recently) and then they rotted on the bench until off loaded. City started to do the same
Mourinho is the second most over rated manager after Pep
Give them an everton and they would do an Avram grant after he left Chelsea. Yes that Avram grant who nearly won a CL
Rob I forgot that and credit for that job on Spain but the premier league is much better than the Spanish league
-------------------------------------------------------------
That's a pretty sweeping statement there.
Remember, he won 2 titles in a league where Barca and Real nearly always win it. Imagine if someone managed Everton or Villa to the title in England. It was a brilliant job from him to do that.

stonfacd - that's why I compared him to Roy Keane
how many titles does roy keane have as a manager?
he managed his way through and went from one club to the other at the perfect timing. That is brilliant. He knew when to leave, and when he got to a new club, what to do to ensure a title in his second season...
Lieiria was 3 games from the title second season.
Porto won it
Chelsea won it
Inter won it
Real won it
Not coincidence. Great manager.
Only criticism is he is defensive minded. But managers sign contracts and are judged on results.
Silky you can till your hearts content but show me where rafa has consistently done well in his career in any league ? (And yes we know about his Valencia exploites) but other than that all I see is a cup manager, nothing more.
Also by pointing out that he had gerrard et al along with the duds, do u agree his record in the league was poor?
Mourinho is a much better manager/coach than Benitez...FAKKT.
Dont care if he turns doncaster into champions league winners, he'd still be that useless fat spanish donut in my eyes.
Javier Irureta won La Liga in 1999-2000, finished 2nd in 00-01 and 01-02 and 3rd in 02-03 and 03-04, not once did he finish behind both real and barca.
Great Manager?
The Benitez/Jose comparison is quite good because they both came on the scene at the same time.
I wonder if Jose would have done as much had Scholes' goal been correctly given in 2004? One of those 'Sliding Doors' moments.
Mex, remember a chat we had a couple of weeks ago about United fans claiming Rafa won the CL with Houllier's team. You said I was talking BS cos you'd never seen it. You have now

Nothing wrong with being objective - but lets look at the article.. Your praising a guy that win the champions league with another mans team, when he got there off his own accord, he lost,
-------------------
Another man's team?? What a silly comment
stonfacd - roy keane with money
Keane did well initially then got found out
Mourinho has had money to bail him out and even then he plays football that is boring
each to their own but I would rather have Gordon Strachan than Mourinho and he leaves clubs in a worse mess than Mourinho
whilst bottling a huge point lead around Christmas time

Funny how people make stuff up to suit their argument. On 1st Jan we were 7 points ahead but you had 2 games in hand.
