Is it time for Evans to become the main CB
Smalling and vida without any question should be starting our league/cl games.
Rio will still get games till seasons end and so will Evans as he's probably seen as 3rd go to man.
Whilst I agree jones should stay at cb, we can't expect him to get much game time there this season.
I think personally though well see a lot of him all over te shop, it'll have a negative effect on his career later on eventuallyz
hopefully rio and vida leave in the summer but i think vida will get a new contract. i still think we need to buy a new CB though
Is it time for Evans to become the main CB
Not for me, and personally if jones and Smalling live up to their potential I don't think he ever will be the main cb
I still have my reservations over Evans. He is a very good reader of the game and he's very calm on the ball.
However....he's too easly bullied by strong strikers and he's nowhere near commanding enough in the air either.

Vidic should be dropped.
Evans with one of Jones/Smalling.

I thought this was the big problem against WBA. Both Rio and Evans are 'backfoot' defenders, more comfortable at picking up secondary balls. Up against someone as powerful as Anichebe last week was asking for trouble. Probably why neither played yesterday against Altidore.

I definitely think Evans should be our first choice alongside Vidic to be honest.
As for being bullied, I'm sure there's more examples to support you then mine, but he doesn't totally get bullied. Ask Drogba how Evans dealt with him
1- Smalling Vidic
2- Evans Vdic
3- Smalling - Evans
4 Jones - x
Jones isn't a cb.
-----------------------------------
The one we signed from Blackburn was.
Vidic is getting bullied a lot recently.
Phil Jones seems like the type of player who will just jump into anything, I like it.
Smalling height would be perfect alongside a player like Jones.
Evans alongside Vidic would be okay because Vidic can handle the more physical forward and Evans can mop up and play out from the back. I'd be happy with that as our main cb's
The Evans - Rio duo is a recipe for disaster though. Both similar players.
For me, I genuinely worry when Smalling and Jones are our centre-backs.
Smalling in my eyes is a mistake waiting to happen. I'm not going to be biased though, he does rarely play at C.B and for me, Jones plays with his heart which is great, but his anticipation can be completely out the window in games.
If this is a season of transition then i think Moyes needs to address the fact that Vidic and certainly Rio are coming to the end of the careers and should therefore start pairing 2 of Evans, Jones & Smalling before deciding if he needs a new CB this Summer.
Centre back is an issue. He thought he could just coast with the experience heads. Now it is clear he cannot. So he has to now find the right pairing. To get rid of vidic is the question. I would but he is captain and the only one who can really lead a defence on this team.
Someone is going to need to stand up before vidic can leave. Till then, the centre back position is going to be rotated.
Also, i think it is clear why fergie has wanted to buy a centre back all this time. People kept saying the midfield but with a good defence, a poor midfield can be managed.
It needs to be Smalling and Vidic as first choice for the rest of the season. Then we can assess and bring in Evans or Jones.
Smalling is 10 times the defender Evans or Jones are.
Evans gets bullied by midgets and Jones will be another Oshea.
With Felleini possibly out for 3 months (if belgium paper reports are true) then Jones will play more games as DM. I like Jones at DM. His positioning needs a little work but he has energy, technically good so can join in the passing and can drive the game forward with the ball at his feet.
I think Jones will turn out to be a top class CB, and he appears to be more vocal and a good organiser, very much in the Vidic role. I think we are lacking some leaders in the team right now, and that's why someone like Jones, who also has good ability, is important to us.
That's why I think we miss Fletcher also, because he knows how to organise our midfield and it would help release our more creative players.
I really think Moyes will buy a CB despite us having Rio, Vidic, Evans, Smalling, Jones .
Could be something in the Kagawa and Subotic swap if Moyes really decides he does not want Kagawa.
He seems quite annoyed by our defensive displays and may already thinking for life without Rio and possibly even Vidic.
im amazed at how quickly age seems to have caught up with Vida and Rio, more so with Rio, but even Vida looks shakey this season, we may need a CB next summer my choice would be Eliaquim Mangala from Porto, fantastic defender, big, quick, strong, good on the ball
Agree Mex.. a real prospect. Gutted we missed out on Varane..he looks class. Also if you look at Distin, think he is 36 but still performing very well and consistently.
Perhaps international football and CL have accelerated Rio's demise, though last season he was superb
Distin is one of the most under-rated defenders in the league, always been an excellent player, and the key thing is he has kept his pace, which is crucial to his game, even now at 34/35 he's one of the quickest players in the league

One thing I'd like Moyes to do is....
