Even when Ronaldo won the league with Madrid, Messi, who missed a crucial penalty in the CL SF vs Chelsea, went on to win the Ballon D'Or. Ridiculous really, Messi is the UEFA/FIFA poster boy. It almost seems fixed at this rate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What is with this misguided myth that FIFA/UEFA choose the ballon d'Or winner? Once the shortlkst is produced the winner comes from votes from journalists, as various football captains and managers.

Exactly. The award is picked by team captains and coaches (hence why ronaldo gave the captaincy away last year around voting time), not FIFA delegates

Poor conspiracy theories at work yet again.

Anywhere I can see calendar year stats? All I coould see checking theie ESPN profiles is Ronaldo having 83 goals in 85 games for club and country since the start of last season while Messi has 89 in 74 in he same period. And a lot more assists too. I don't know what the calendar year breakdown is. Any links?

Could have just linked me with the pages rather than my navigating from the homepage. Would have to check that out later. Having a busy night.

Just click on Madrid/Barca fixtures and click a drop down for all their matches, it lists the scorers.

Ronaldo had become only the second player in history to score a hat-trick against the same side for four consecutive seasons. Alfredo Di Stefano had previously done it against Las Palmas.

Ribery deserves it for what he achieved with Bayern

Dont worry 50P. Ribery will get this honour because he plays for Bayern and they won it all.
