Time for Townsend to pisss off every Spurs fan by having his first good game this season...for England
We don't have the players but who knows, with a defensive, tuurdlike, unambitious manager like Roy and a bit of team spirit (and less pressure than usual) who knows. We could be a Denmark or Greece.
Interesting that some knowing what Hodgson will do when all players are fit and available

Yer,
I rate Italy's chances same as England's, both would be the underdogs of the tournament

England have a good team when all are fit and in form (if that ever happens)
Hart
Clyne Smalling Stones Shaw
Carrick Wilshere
Walcott Barkley Sterling
Rooney

Carrick is the best part of that team. Imagine the hilarity of Henderson being there.
I'd rather have walcott and Sturridge up top and move Rooney to the bench. But as captain we have to leave him on the pitch somehow. Attacking mid I guess.

Englands midfield is the weak area imo
always is, cannot control tempo/pattern of games against other 'big' teams
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's why England should always concede the midfield battles and play with pacey players to counter attack. Kind of like how we used to beat Arsenal.
Walcott, Sterling and Barkley would be great players to have on the break. If Sturridge can stay fit I'd drop Rooney for him

I love this time of year when England fans begin to believe again just because of qualifying from a comedy group
we don't have any players who are proper defensive mids or a midfield general.
It's depressing.
as others have said, maybe it's a case of just having to go for counter attacking players.

England's group is hardly worse than any of the others. In the sense that England would have come at least second in any of the other groups.
Germany lost in Ireland ( which england wouldn't have done) and struggled to beat Georgia. Who England would have smashed probably.
England generally always do well in qualifiers. Whichever the group.

we are always underdogs
whenever we do good stuff people are always like "oh wow, Italy did well.......again..........what a shock"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For some reasons, Italy doesn't seem to do well in Europe, not as well as they do in WC.
Italy have won it only once and this was in 1968
Probably, though of course England have failed to beat Macedonia twice.
Yep our midfield options are pretty average.
While not world class, I think a Wilshere, Carrick and Barkley midfield is pretty good. Would trouble most sides. Problem is I think Milner might be put in there.

The Dutch had a pretty average midfield at the world cup, though, so you can still do well without having the best cm's.
But we don't have a player anywhere near as good as Robben.
Wonder who will take the lead in the ''most semi finals in major tournaments since 1970'' contest.......England or Turkey?
