Capello failed with Russia too. I guess his stubbornness is not really suited to the international game.

Capello was a dinosaur. Used to be a great manager but not a modern manager and pisssed off the Russians too.

italian style training looks to creates conditioning where the team improves as the tournament progresses

Sounds like the Italian national team needs to bring in some Italian coaches based on their recent World Cup performances

Easier to manage a team to your style at club football where you get to spend every day with the players, I would have thought. And you can always buy new ones when you need to.

Not so much at international level.

problem with the England side is that for 80% of the side the second (and sometimes 3rd) choice player isn't really any better or worse than the starter, just different strengths and weaknesses.

Which would be a great thing if they were class, but they're not.

That's why it's refreshing to see 5th seeds getting through by actually kissing the badge and really meaning it, and reaping the rewards.

If Walcott can stay fit and in form by the time the Euros come around England might have a chance. Perhaps im overrating him but at his best he's as dangerous as anyone else in Europe.

Rob in overrating Arsenal player shocker.

Only Germany (8) and Brazil (7) have reached more WC finals than Italy (6).

Obviously these techniques employed by Italians seem to work well for them

That would be defence.

walcott's got 7 in his last 9 matches and been playing up top.

maybe now that he's finally got a go at what he thinks is his best position, he's actually been right all along

Tbf. Walcott is a good player, problem is that he is hardly fit

Two of the Italian finals (and wins) came before the decent nations were even in the world cups. And we all know at least one of those wins was dodgy.

History.

I live in the here and now.

Walcott was looking very good before his injury. Without the big injuries I reckon Walcott would have gone on to be a world class player. He still might.

Walcott still needs to practice on his left foot. I've seen a few of his goals lately where he's waited for the ball to fall on his right, when he could hit it first time on his left. You're not always going to get the time to do that in big games.

Seeing Walcott and Rooney playing up front attempting to hold the ball up will be a sight to behold.

I don't think anything that's happened 20+ years ago for a national side means anything other than as a team talk about history
