The Rooney reaction has been overstated, he played really well in the first half, it was dissapointing he couldn't take that chance though as he had done the hard work making the run to stayed onside and cut inside and given the eyes to the keeper, just had to hit the target. That corner was unforgiveable though given the time and situation.

Not overstated. This is the build up of past decade.

What would you have given him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure. I was a bit drunk whilst watching it. He didn't seem to be that bad. I watched it with a group of Bolton fans, who absolutely hate anything United. If he'd have been that bad they would have said plenty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
barf . Serious question was that to do with him being for the main not involved?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe. Maybe he would have been more involved had he been central?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
for a player who loses discipline to get involved he just wasn't involved for me mate. I don't think position mattered. even when studge got taken off he wasn't busting a gut to take up a good position
The first three days of this tournament have been brilliant so far, lets hope day four carries on the momentum.
Ecuador - Switzerland first. Not a fixture to make the mouth water at first glance but Ecuador are a decent outfit and from what I've seen in previews, Switzerland play a more expansive style then we've seen in previous tournaments.
It was quite amazing how peoples assessments as a group changed dramatically after the first and second halves
Reading on here at half time and people sounded optimistic and pleased, reading at full time and it sounded like we were the worst football team ever!

We are due to a poor day, but no doubt that will be tomorrow when I can actually watch games

i have been a critic of Rooney for a couple of seasons now a "hater" if you will and when i awoke this morning and stuck the news on i honestly was wondering what game i had watched and comments i had read on here.
with all due respect i got the same feeling with your comment
Rooney was woeful and that cross is just clutching
I'm pleased with the performance, bit gutted we couldn't get an equaliser. Rooney had a bad 2nd half, hopefully he'll make up for it later.
Actually, the team in general had a bad last 20-25 minutes or so. We seemed tired.

Ecuador are a decent side, think they will surprise a few in this WC. Not a big follower of the Bundesliga so I am looking forward to seeing Shaqiri, Di Marzio saying LFC in talks to sign him.

Apparently Ricardo Rodriguez is meant to be good
Johan Djourou best defender in the World Cup

yeah, italy players seemed fitter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They just kept the ball and let England tire themselves out running around in the heat. If England aren't fit, then they are in some serious trouble.
A few years ago i had a discussion with a guy who works "within football". Not sure what he does or did tbh but he was involved
he basically said that in reality the English set up pretty much know, and have known for time, that England are not in the running to win the euros or WC. As such the focus is to basically make money during the tournaments
one of the best ways is via endoresements and advertising and that is why certain players (and ex players) are involved
now this was about 10 years ago.
wonder if that explains the England squad/team

Pirlo's fitness last night was unbelievable. Running all over the place in injury at the end of the game, incredible really. Glad we won't ever be on the end of that again.

Why on earth would the FA give up hope a decade ago when England actually had good players!?

I'm keeping an eye on Ricardo Rodriguez; a cheaper and much better alternative to Luke Shaw.
I'll be interested to find out how much ground Pirlo ran yesterday. Don't think it will be anyway near the English midfielders.

the golden generation?
maybe in revenue terms
Switzerland actually have quite a good first XI, except for their CBs. Think Shaqiri will shine this tournament.
