BT make a lot more revenue than Sky and they're probably only trying to challenge Sky sports so that more people sign up for their Broadband

i get BT Sport on Virgin Media for nothing as part of the TVXL package

BT are over paying and offing it cheap (free with internet) in order to get market share in both the internet, phone and payTV markets. Short term loses for long term gain.

BT are a much bigger company than sky, this is a serious challenge.

Found it hard enough to be interested in ropey league when United were in it, watch it rarely....

Will be gutted to lose CL footy off ITV, probably just switch to Internet streams now...

Did allow me to have 2 games on at once, one on the tv and one on the pc.

I actually don't rate ITV at all for Sport, & won't miss that coverage.

Difficult one this, Sky losing so much off their share price may affect their ability to pay so much for the PL rites when they come up for bidding. This could lower the price of the PL package and clubs may loose out on revenue that might allow them to compete with those around them and in the case of our top 4 whoever they may be at the time, with others in Europe.

Many people will be unwilling to pay for two packages, 1 for PL and one for CL football. BT may have difficulty generating the customers to cover the bill.

I am a BT customer so I do get the package for free, including HD until next year but I will get SD after that, however, by 2015, who knows they may charge regardless.

Some customers may drop Sky for BT further diminishing Sky's revenues.

I think in the fight to own these rites the major players are potentially doing themselves damage by splitting the coverage between two companies.

I am fairly sure that what ever happens, the consumer, i.e. us, will not end up paying any less for greater coverage and at best may get less coverage for similar costs.

JFDI, clubs won't lose out on money as a result of this. They'll probably gain more if BT start a monopoly on the football rights if Sky can't compete with them.

I read somewhere that BT had to taken on some of the pundits like Mcmanaman and a few others because their contracts were with ESPN and BT took over ESPN so had no choice but to have them as pundits until their contract ends.

It's quite funny seeing BT give Sky a bloody nose with this deal.

Think its kind of payback for Sky launching broadband a while back and muscling in on BT's patch.

Apparantly Sky panicked when they heard of BT's late bid and tried to bid for the CL rights on its own rather than a joint bid with ITV. They said they would lease some games back to ITV so that some could be shown on terrestial TV like it is now.

It'll be interesting to see what Sky do with the next Premier League rights. Whether they go all out for the whole package. They could take the foreign football BT show like German,French and Italian football and combine it with their Spanish coverage.

It's free at the moment. Sky is different in that they need to charge a fortune to justify how much they spend on acquiring the package.

I'm not so sure BT do as their revenues must be ridiculous. The must make as much money as Sky do on line rental alone.
