Not sure, I think Roy severely under prepared the players for tonight. They looked shocked out there

posted on 15/11/13

With Rooney being our only one world class player of note doesn't exactly help our situation.

posted on 15/11/13

They clearly underrated Chile and got even more overconfident when they had a few good chances at the start

Rooney is most definitely NOT world class.

This game was shocking from england. They keot crossing the ball, no intricate movement in the whole game, So many times players like glen johnson hoofed it to no one wen it took ages to get the ball. Thats why carrick should be on the 1st team, he reads the game well, some of the england players looked like headless chickens running after the ball getting nowhere near it. England deserved to lose due to no variation in the play. Same slow uild up.

I wouldnt really read anything into it at all.

People have to remember that the side tonight was by no means England's best. 4 players at most in that 11 are first choice.

Wasn't far off England's best though was it? Apart from Gerrard, Sturridge and Jagielka it was pretty damn close. Even Baines who was supposed to be better than Cole, has given reason to change opinion, so you could maybe add Cole too.

Only Cahill, Johnson, Rooney and arguably Lampard are in Hodgson's first choice XI from that team, so I'd say it was pretty far from our best.

The exact same thing will happen in the World Cup as soon as we come up against a technically superior side like we did tonight and Chile were without two of their best players as well.

We don't have the players who possess the ability on the ball like the other top nations do but the players who do possess some ability, aren't involved often enough and this needs to change.

The likes of Lampard and Milner should never play for England again as far as I'm concerned. I would much rather see the likes of Barkley, Cleverley, Carrick, even Ravel Morrison involved over them alongside Wilshere. Players who are comfortable in possession and ensure we have better control of a game.

This is where we so often fall down against the best sides and we never seem to learn from it.

I can't wait to see what Germany will do to us on Tuesday when Lampard and Gerrard line-up in midfield against them.

And Hart.
Forster was poor for the first and was awful for the second. I'm not banging at him or whatever, just that anyone who thinks Hart shouldn't be #1 is an idiot

Hart may be number 1 still, but let's not kid ourselves he would have made a difference to the overall performance.

I'm in two minds to be honest TRS. Sometimes I think part of the issue is that we feel we have to play like these other teams and play technical football and a high pressing game, despite a lot of our players never playing that way with their club side.

Sometimes, I don't think there is anything wrong with the old English style of play. In many ways, it can counter technical football very well and in some circumstances, if we try and beat some of their teams at the own game, then we will lose.

That's just part of what I think though, the other part of me thinks the opposite!

I completely agree in regards to not trying to mirror the better nations' style of play. It would be impossible for us to do that.

We need however to find a balance between playing the way we know and playing more of a possession based and short passing game because I have watched England so many times struggle in possession, even at doing the simple things against superior sides and this is something that I really do feel we need to improve on.

We would rarely even play at the pace that you would associate with the Premier League.

Watching England at times is like watching United. Very pedestrian in our build up and lacking in imagination and invention at times.

Will happen. Just will. England aren't good enough, I'm afraid.
Any half decent technical side will run rings around em.

Bringing back the home nations games would probably be England's best chance of success at international level now, far too many teams have caught up or overtaken us now on the european/world stage.

Yep agree with that TRS.

He was our best player by an absolute mile

You are a layman

Look at England's other forwards tonight and compare them to Rooney

Rooney is utterly world class. How he managed to look as good as he did in that shambolic display is beyond me

Jones too showed Cahill how to defend

A word to for Milner. As usual, the guy left nothing on the pitch. An England player that gets the best our of his ability

Baines had a bad game but of late, he's been top class for England. Let's forgive him one bad game

No offence melts but aside from Rooney, we didn't press chit

posted on 15/11/13

At times tonight it didn't seem as if there was a game plan really, first half especially because while some players pressed, others just sat off.

It was all very disjointed and unorganised and the type of football that left us feeling more positive in the final two qualifiers all but vanished which isn't really a susprise given the difference in quality of the opposition.

That was the C team out today

On the basis that our A team is a B team these days

posted on 15/11/13

The biggest concern, yet again, was the back four.

The defence will get picked off quite easily against the better teams at the world cup. The goals conceded stat in qualifying was just as misleading as the goals scored stat.

Our best defenders at international level are still Rio and Terry.
