I was checking for Mraradona's stats during his club career. they are far less impressive compared to Messi and CR7. still cant find the stats for assists.

Can someone please post goals, assists and appearances stats for maradona's club career

What about these stats?

World Cup wins

Pele 3
Maradona 1

It's not all about stats.

If you want to compare stats.... Try seeing how he improved Napoli, season by season. This wasn't a team at the top, like Barca, UTD or Real Madrid.

What he did was akin to joining, say, Fulham and completely transforming them , winning numerous trophies.

Im not saying pele or maradona is unfit. In fact Pele is as fit as modern day footballers imo.

Its their opposition that were unfit. so they couldnt press and make the life difficult for the likes of pele and maradona.

The thing is, for their time, Maradona and Pele were not just amazing footballers they were the physical specimens of their era (this is before Maradona became a cokehead and got fat).

As a result of this and their supreme ability their class shone through, just as it has with Messi and Ronaldo.

We can play silly beggars and take that player in his exact form and drop him into a different era and say he wouldn't be as good.

But it's a futile exercise when comparing across eras.

the same can be said for cantona, that doesnt make him the best ever does it? stats are stats

"In fact Pele is as fit as modern day footballers imo."

Based on what, I would say that is completely untrue. I'm sure his fitness for his time would have been very good but still way off what is expected from today's athletes.

I shall build a time machine and give each footballer 12 months of conditioning before I bring the world 'The Time Cup 2090'.

You're all invited although the likes of Ding Jun and Ho Min will both be the Messi and Ronaldo of 2090 and will be the stars then.

TBF Maradona was doing a lot of coke during his Napoli days and partying pretty hard. I wouldn't say he was a good physical specimen then. He had a fake willy with clean blood back in those days, that's why I love the guy, constantly did recreational drugs that don't improve your game but was still bossing things.

just watch any of the matches pele played. there are plenty on youtube. he is clearly above the rest phisically and he kept the pace and intensity during the whole match

So you have been watching full 90 minutes of Pele at Santos during the 60s on Youtube? I thought that footage pretty much hardly exists.

It is often been said that TV did a great injustice to Pele.
Also, if you ever saw the tackle which took out Pele at the 66 world cup or the leg breaking tackle from the Butcher in Spain against Maradona, you will learn to appreciate those guys more.

Maradona's coveted goal scoring record

115 goals in 259 matches

that is 115 goals over 7 seasons

Mesi and CR7 score 115 in two seasons

Do you really think La Liga's defence of now is comparable to Serie A in the 80's?

Kewl, show me some great performances by Messi and Ronaldo at World Cups too while you're at it.

Opinions differ. Messi is GOAT, Ronaldo is top 5 of all time.
From what I've seen
Messi
Maradona
Pele
Ronaldo
Zidane.

Robb

its only 115 goals over 7 seasons

Both Messi and CR7 scored 200+ in less appearances. maradona is clearly not better than messi and ronaldo

1982, ok maybe physical specimen is a bit over the top, but by the standards of the day he wasn't exactly a Berbatov, for example.

My point is that him and Pele weren't lightweight players playing in an era that afforded them that luxury.

Advances in tactics and sports science aren't relevant as were these players playing today they'd have the same advantages and their class would shine through.

I don't know who is the best, I've not seen enough of all these players to give an informed opinion and I'll be naturally more biased to Messi as I've seen him play far more than any of these other greats.

It's why I tend not to go into too much detail with Pele as we are limited as to what we could have seen - regardless of age, how many people were regularly watching Brazilian state championships in the 60's and 70's in the UK?

I just don't agree with this false reasoning as to why this player or that player is better.
