The Walking Dead games are a brilliant example of a lengthy campaign, interesting story and cartoony graphics.

Theres a new one called The wolf among us that looks pretty cool too.

I see what you're getting at and I agree with the notion that creativity seems to be disappearing throughout the console gaming industry. RPG's, RTS games, mystery solving games and games that don't involve mindless violence seem to be at an all time low. The mainstream is becoming so streamlined that I'm failing to find anything to be interested in. I have resorted to looking through older game catalogues and trying out games I may have missed out on.

I am really worried when the general batch is run n gun FPS, sandbox generic formula and sports is what makes the most money. Eventually there will be no consideration of making a game that doesn't follow tha basic formulas set before it.

This is partly why I think AC4 actually deserves more credit than it's had. The gameplay on land is very much the same as old but the naval combat on it is really well refined and an innovative idea in gaming. It's something new and refreshing away from the tired FPS and sports games and it's exciting and fun to play.

What I want to see is more MMO style games on consoles now, one of the reasons why Borderlands is such a good game for me is that it's like a small scale MMO - everything you can do on it, you can do with other people. They should be working on games like Fallout or a zombie apocalypse in an open world, where you can randomly stumble across other players & team up. Hopefully Elder Scrolls Online/Diablo3 will be a success if/when they're released on consoles. Large scale co op/multiplayer games should really be coming into their own now.

Simon obviously I was exaggerating a bit but you understand what I was saying. Portal 2 was amazing and so was the Walking Dead game. Not the one with Daryl on the cover

FRR - I agree somewhat. I love the ability to jump in and out of games with people but I don't think there is anything that surpasses a quality main campaign. Sometimes I just don't feel like playing against people online or (rarely)with. Teamwork online is so much better than competitive IMO but some people will disagree. Plus you can have both. But teamwork is part of the reason the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer was so brilliant. Loved it. I want more of that and games like Portal 2/Borderlands 1&2

I prefer co op over competitive too. I don't see why, especially with the power of the consoles now, games can't have a great campaign - much like TLOU for example - and make them work well as a single player or co op game.

I don't think it's impossible. I think developers know where the money is right now. It's easy. Military FPS. Tuh-duh!

RtM is pretty much spot on - but the problem isnt developers but the publishers. Having worked in the industry for many years this has always been the problem since the playstation era. Publishers want to make money and unfortunately have the money - this is why myself and many many people left the industry, we never had full control over the development of the games.

Rockstar seem to be the only ones who give their developers unlimited time and budget.

Was going to add that it also shows with their games, RDR and GTAV were 2 of the best games of the generation, and they made a more than reasonable profit. Could say Bethesda are similar to them too, take their time with games & don't do annual releases.

We need more publishers like Bethesda Softworks & Rockstar Games, and less EAs & Activisions.

Did anyone play Dishonoured?
I really enjoyed it but I know a lot of people who didn't

Na, thought of getting it but didn't in the end.

True but loads of Bethesda games are released with so many bugs it's unreal.

I played Dishonoured Greg yeah, it was fun. A bit easy but then if you want more of a challenge you give yourself one. Glad I didn't buy it day one and full price but still a good game.

Bethesda games are massive and generally have deeper play mechanics and storylines. There are bound to be bugs. However, saying that, there was no excuse for releasing Fallout 3 Vegas in that condition.

Hopefully their games will be much more polished and smooth on the next gen consoles. Didn't Skyrim use up the entire RAM on the ps3/360? They ported it onto the ps3 too, seemed like a pretty stupid idea considering the size of the game.

I got away without suffering any serious glitches in Skyrim, brilliant game.

TES online looks like it's going to flop on consoles Fergie I doubt people will like the idea of paying a subscription fee

Especially when they are already paying for an online fee in general.

Two reasons why I am waiting till next year before buying a PS4:

1. The early batches tend to have problems. I bought a PS3 when it first came out and it broke within 4 years.

2. It takes at least a year for games developers to put in any real effort and make good games.

The games released have not been designed for next gen, all the real ps4 games will be coming out in march

Now that bf4 is fixed I'll be dividing my time between that, need for speed and warframe

Warframe is particularly fun considering it's free

posted on 12/12/13

As an XB1 owner I agree, we should have all waited until March.

Titanfall, Destiny, Watch Dogs etc all look like brilliant games - and if you're worried about delays never helping games, wasn't GTA V delayed?

posted on 12/12/13

Watch Dogs is coming out on PS3/360 too.

posted on 12/12/13

Yeah, but it's likely going to be a lot better on next gen.

Titanfall and Destiny are also going to be on 'current gen' but they're the first wave of true next gen games.

posted on 12/12/13

Surely a 'true' next gen game will be one purely for the next gen consoles, because it'll be too much for the current ones to handle? Those ones will obviously be the same game, but with slightly better graphics.

If a new Fallout came out, which was twice as big as the previous games, with twice as much content, and could only run on PS4/xboxone/PC, that would be a real next gen game for me.

posted on 12/12/13

I hate the words next gen like, PCs had these graphics about 5 years ago
my 4 year old pc is the same power as the new consoles almost. Slightly weaker graphics card but I've got 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB hard drive!
