I can't stand to watch Leeds on tele, why would I do it in the stadium
Sorry standing at football is going backwards, dont ever want to see it brought back as it is so much better expecially if you take your kids to the game. For me its like should we bring back telegrams.
Will never happen in this country

There is nothing I'd like more than for it to come back but I cant see it, sadly not in the near future.
Although I don't think i've ever sat down at a game anyway so its doesn't matter really
The seats are a good idea for those who want to sit down at half time
There is no logical argument to state that safe standing with the type of rail seating arrangements that have been showcased recently is not safer than standing in cramped rows of plastic seats as we have now. Clubs have unofficially surrendered to the fans, most noticeably Cardiff, have turned a blind eye to standing in certain areas of the stadium. Surely a specially designed standing area would be more comfortable and enjoyable experience? I miss the old Trent End at Forest and would love to be able to take my son to the City Ground and enjoy a similar experience.
There is a safe way to do it in certain parts of the stadium, if it's equipped for it. Only problem is fire exits i would suspect. They have successfully done it in Germany for their league games at Dortmund and they switch back for Champs league by moving the seats back. It can be done if it's done right.
96 familes lost love ones.
They are totally against standing
Do you think anyone will go against their views
The Taylor report didn't say standing areas were the cause of the disaster. It was clearly poor crowd management. The tail seats and why we have now are not too dissimilar. If anything I believe rail seats are after as a lot of the current seating areas at stadiums around the country are dangerously cramped, the away end at Loftus Road being one if the worst in my experience.

Needs doing asap, along with paying players less, and getting ticket prices down
Dortmund, Leeds' twin city, and the Germans in general have shown us this is all possible, and how to do it
Football's Coming Home
LIW, Leeds had a game not to long before that game at the same venue in the same stand, and fans made it clear it was like hell and not a ground to be visited again, safety experts even said it was very crowded and dangerous!..
May have been planning, but there were also gates not open that could have prevented some of what happened, but were there not to many people pushed into that stretch of stand?..
I was at the Boro/Leeds game a number of years ago, after the game they locked the Leeds fans in the ground, but the pressure of the people in the stands pushing to get out and the people already lining to get out was unbelievable, and a toilet wall callasped, a few people were treated for broken bones but even that could have resulted in death!..
Standing is safe if the grounds are safe, and they're meant to get checked yearly or not?..
Oh, and the Media blamed football hooligans for the wall!..
Just had to be Leeds didn't it?..
Germany, spot on, I remember being crushed in the away end there
LIW, you say standing will never return?
Well actually many already stand, is that safe?
Unless seating is enforced there is a big problem.
Maybe have areas where people actually want to sit down?
The present shambles doesn't work.
How can standing be safer in a seated area than a specially designed standing area?
Some want to sit, others want to stand, surely they should be kept apart.

You know full well what I meant.
Do you think there going to go against the wishes of the families

Really ???

No they don't - maybe the north stand, but thats about it. Unless i've gone blind every other week on matchday, or i'm not turning up to the right stadium - i could swear i'm surrounded by - for rows and rows - of fans sitting (unless of course we're attacking or just scored).
Those who want a return to standing are a minority. How many stay standing in the north stand because they don't have a choice or it's peer pressure to do so? I've nothing or no evidence to back that up with, but i never hear any discussion or desire for it to return anywhere near where i sit - or with the lads/lasses i meet each time.
Make a small area (it's all you'd need) available for those who yearn for the mayhem - good luck to you, you're welcome to it.
I like many others (i.e. kids, women, elderly etc....) enjoy that i can pay my money, go to my seat and actually SEE the game. I've been to ER in the 70/80/90/00/10s - the experience (for me personally) is far better now.
Liw is right - regardless of what any fans groups say, the wishes of the families will be respected i'd imagine. The only leeway i can see would be small areas set aside for fans to stand.
I have to disagree. I have been to matches where crowds have surged along rows of seating and it wasn't safe. Rail seating has a barrier between each row meaning surging would be nigh on impossible, which is the issue everyone has.
Cal, so standing is safe in seating areas?
So if that's the case why not have standing and sitting areas in seating areas so one can choose?
It really doesn't make sense.

VOF, even in the family stand at ER and the east stand you are up and down all the time.
However I was basing my opinion on many grounds and fans in general.
Fans do stand up, don't tell me they don't.
Some for the whole match.
If standing is not safe then why does it allowed on germany for example and why is it allowed in seating areas?

Why won't you answer the question
Do you think we should go against the wishes of 96 families who lost loved ones ????
Do you think that's right so once or twice a year you can stand up
I don't want to stand these days, I would give it a try though.
It's either safe or unsafe, if the latter then why sitting must be enforced.
If it is safe then let people stand.
Why won't you answer the question
Would you bring back standing areas against the wishes of the families ?????
Don't know what's so hard to understand
Cal, if people want to stand why not let then stand?
That also leaves the people in peace that want to sit.
