I imagine Rooney will be back for tonight and RVP will be back for Saturday.

But if we lost them both I think there are real problems in the squad or management or both.

As optimistic as you are, what would you want done if no players were brought in and we continued all season with this dross?

If we lost to both teams, I would be outraged.

Our home form is a REAL concern. If this form continues much longer then it may point to real problems at the club.

If that doesn't show we're going in the right direction, I don't know what will

I'm 99.99999% sure Moyes wants to bring players in so if none were incoming i'd blame the Glazers for being tighter than they need to be right now. Or if the Glazers aren't to blame i'd imagine this time of year is very difficult to bring people in and would give Moyes/the board the benefit of the doubt and hope that whatever position we came in this season that we should all write it off as a poor season.

Next season we all begin on zero points and for me, the real test of Moyes' tenure would be how he prepares for next season. I imagine as many as 8 players will be leaving and at least 3 big names will be expected to come in.

I don't expect everyone to feel the same but for me this season is a write off and next season is the real test.

I will give Moyes the full season and see how he gets on. There are mitigating circumstances for our current position, including a tough start to the league, poor transfer activity in the summer and injuries to key players. That said, we still shouldn't be doing this badly in the league.

If we finish in the top 4 this season then I think that Moyes will and should get another year and he deserves the chance to get his own players in and put his stamp on the team. However, even with the issues that Moyes has faced that are out of his control, we still have a squad that is strong enough to finish in the top 4. If he doesn't manage that, then I'd advocate him leaving the club in the summer.

Without a fit RVP and with a defence as poor as ours IMO we're not good enough to finish in the top 4 in this particular season. IMO it would have been good enough last year but this year we have 4 teams winning nearly every week and for us to keep up we need our absolute best players playing every week.

I agree, but nobody really knows what he is trying to do with our team at the moment.

Is it because our players are not good enough that we are not creating/scoring enough goals or the fact that all we do is pass to our wingers, cross and hope for the best?

Yea, but I meant the Swansea game on the weekend is at home and if we were to lose it would be 3 home games lost in a row.

I think those two things are the same thing.

We don't have the Ozil/Silva/Mata type players to play through the middle so the wings are all we have. And sadly on the wings we've been found wanting.

Kagawa has been given many chances in the middle this season but in the PL at least he's been average at best. The guy needs the team built around him for us to really see what he's made of but with Rooney being first choice in that role we'll never see Kagawa there long enough for him to flourish.

Robb you said just write this season off....?
Imagine moyes having similar thoughts.

I don't think its a write off at all and we can still get something out of this season.

Greg

I doubt Moyes or anyone at the club is writing this season off but as a fan i'd advise everyone on here to stop worrying about us finishing 5th and trophyless.

Of course it would be depressing but this whole panic-mode about missing out on the CL being disastrous is ridiculous.

Of course it would be setback but there are more than enough top players out there who would join us and improve on what we have right now.

If united lose both then god help moyes, but to be fair i think will win both and ease the pressure a little.....until chelsea whack 5 past us!

I've come to accept that Moges isn't going anywhere, I have huge concerns about his vision for the club and whether he is right to take us forward (by concerns I mean I think he is the wrong man and could well ruin us).

He has already said he won't be doing much if anything this month so I don't understand why everybody is expecting signings.

Let's pray we make top 4 and love on from there I guess.

Yu write this season off we could be in huge danger. Who is going to sign for a club no longer competing in CL football, unless we pay them a kings ransom (which we won't)?

posted on 7/1/14

We won't be writing the season off. Moyes is striving for some consistency and better performances of course.
I think he will get at least one player in but it won't be a short term fix.
I see us drawing tonight and beating Swansea. I fear for us at Chelsea though !

That's a myth mate.

Yaya Toure, Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Eriksen, Suarez, Kompany, Cabaye and lots of other very good players sign for clubs who aren't in the CL.

I said 'write it off' from a fans point of view. IMO if RVP and Rooney stay fit we'll get top 4. If one of them isn't in the team we'll not get top 4 because

1) our squad isn't good enough and 2) the other top 4 clubs are all winning every week.

You talk about those number 10 players but you don't need them to create goals through the middle.

With the players we have at the moment, we need a change of formation.
What do arsenal use? 4-5-1... 4-2-3-1... ? Similar to Chelsea.

The reason we get nothing through the middle is because our players are all static when around the box, is that Moyes tactics? Telling them to just keep the ball until something opens up, but before that happens we lose the ball and get countered.

There is no imagination in the team, we HAVE the players to be imaginative but not the manager in my opinion.

All of them played for pretty crap teams part from Yaya, besides they DID pay up a lot for him. £24M and then the large wages.

Greg, what players are these?

Anderson who is as reliable as a 3 legged dog?
RVP who is currently injured?
Rooney who apparently is going to have groin problems for the forseeable future?
Kagawa who is just not good enough in the PL? (admittedly very good in the CL)

To cap it all off, no matter how well we do going forward, our defence is a mistake waiting to happen.

Sir Alex got out at the right time because our squad is not good enough.

Who ever is in charge of the transfers are massively letting the club down. Given our desperate situation, I was expecting the new signings to be announced at 00.01 on 1st of january.

Everyone involved with transfers are deluded if they think united can get top four without strengthening in January.

Yeah, but there are plenty of players of that level still playing at crap clubs who we can and probably will buy this summer.

Remember that the default position on here is 'worst case scenario' but it doesn't have to turn out that way.

worst case scenario is that we finish 5th and can't attract anyone other than Titus Bramble or Emile Heskey. But who says that will happen?

Maybe we'll finish 5th and get Draxler, Banega and Mangala while shipping out a LOT of deadwood.

There are strong rumours that Coentrao is on the verge of joining but Real are being difficult.

I've seen Cleverley make some fantastic passes. Anderson too.
Give Januzaj a go in the middle. Hell, try Nani there!

I really think it is just a case of Moyes being a complete pus sy when it comes to attacking. He instructs the team to not lose the ball when around the box but we do anyway and we get countered.

How else can you explain our lack of shots on goal? Nobody shoots, ever.
