Koscielney 'Does Have A Mistake In Him'

Kos is a great defender. He's unlucky that his rashness gets penilised by refs. The other defenders you've mentioned get away with it.

Kos is a world class CB.

Today's top CBs all make errors.

Kos would be a dead man if it wasnt for sakho

Agreed. If Kos didn't have the 'rashness' or 'impulsiveness' in him, he wouldn't be special.

If we win the title with him continuing to perform at the heart of our defence, I'd have this find up there with the Henry's, Vieira's and many more of Wenger's great finds. Didn't he come from Ligue 2??

French league is pretty average so I can't imagine how bad their second division must be

Elaborate a little

Kos does have a mistake in him, but most top cb's do so it shouldn't detract to what a good cb he's become as these mistakes are pretty rare compared to what they used to be.

I wouldn't say Kos is up there with Henry and Viera in terms of being a find, he's higher. Everybody knew about Henry and Viera, Wenger just took a risk on them after their failure in Italy and helped develop them into world class players.

Kos on the other hand was a relative unknown. How much did you pay for him? Has been a brilliant signing.

Koscielny is indeed world class. He used to annoy us all when he made those silly silly mistakes. He's ironed that out his game and found someone who compliments him perfectly in Mertesacker.

About 7 million I think. Not sure though

That's actually more than I was expecting.

Loads of top clubs were after Kos when we signed him, he'd just had an outstanding season in Ligue 1 and was in the TOTS. We paid about 8m for him I think

Its because we haven't won anything in a while.
Cesc, RV etc were all under rated apart from by Arsenal fans ofcourse, until they jumped ship and suddenly people are ok with labeling them world class.

Think it was closer to £8m. Seemed like a very weird transfer at the time, as he was brought in at the same time as Squillaci who cost a lot less and was older and more experienced. Squillaci never got off the ground for us and over the last couple of seasons Kos has been one of the best in the league. Mad.

Just because Titi won the world cup doesn't mean he wasn't a find. He was just a speedy winger who scored on the big stage a couple of times, how many players have you seen star in national tournaments then do nothing afterwards.

Titi was made by AW, change in position and style still arguable however Vieira was a pure find, he came at 17 for goodness sake he'd also did nothing major in his career before hand

posted on 15/1/14

Was he? I don't remember loads of top clubs being after him.

Either way, in comparison to Henry and Viera he was an unknown.

posted on 15/1/14

I definitely remember strong rumours about us beating Lyon and Bayern to sign him Daz

posted on 15/1/14

My point is that those players were known about. Viera less so compared to Henry. Everyone knew who Henry was before he went to Arsenal, it's just at Arsenal he became a star.

I don't consider it a find if that player has a big rep.

Ahh ok, Kam.

Koscielny was a nobody.

Pep has been after him for a while, the . Kos has turned down Barca and Bayern in the past two seasons. He knows we made him

posted on 15/1/14

Bayern could really do with a cb of Kos' class as well. It's their weakest area.

posted on 15/1/14

Yep, definitely. We'll give them Kos for Ribery and 50M

I think his partnership with Mertesacker has been a big factor in him getting this good. When he was playing with Vermaelen or (god forbid) Djourou, his somewhat gung-ho attitude cost us a few points here and there because the other centre-back wasn't the kind to be in the right position to get the ball back. Per on the other hand is just excellent at reading the game, so we now have the great combination of Kossy closing opponents down straight away, and Merts sweeping up anything that gets through.

I don't think there's a better defender in the world at facing individual players like Suarez/messi than Kos. On the ground he's as good as it gets. Mertersacker compliments him well.
