Carragher is a tool.
Looks well out of his depth next to Neville, who speaks with sense.
People fall down the stairs and break their necks everyday. This rule could be a a catastrophe.
So what happens if a manager is totally out of his depth, just ride it out for months until the season ends? No way, far too much riding on football nowadays.
We should make it more Pardew based.
Say if its a draw after extra time in cup games, instead of penalty's. Both managers would strip to the waste and have a throw down in the centre circle!
I like Carra but this is a stupid idea.
Interesting idea. It would probably stop knee jerk appointments like Di Canio from happening in the first place. Clubs would be less likely to gamble on rookie mangers trying to save their seasons.

Thus you get the same faces managing year in year out with no fresh blood or ideas coming into the game.
wasn't Carragher tipped as a future Liverpool manager?
yeah, its not the brightest thing hes ever thought of voicing, theres too much money on the line for chairmen for them not to try new options, and there would be ways of circumventing it by bringing in directors of football and putting the managers on gardening leave

yes if someone saying 'carragher could be a manager one day' counts.... same as any other player

That's the way it is anyway!
Managers get sacked all the time and walk in to another job virtually straight away!

If clubs are unhappy with their manager they could change at the end of the season or a 'manager window'. I'd rather see that than the likes of Vincent Tan making crazy decisions.
I don't think Carraghers idea is entirely thought out, but it is an interesting concept.

It would be a stupid idea. Football clubs are huge business and the manager is an integral part of that business - why should a company not be able to fire a member of staff if their performance is directly endangering the company's future, e.g. poor performance possibly leading to relegation or similar? All that will happen is that managers would be put on gardening leave but retainer with the club, and a new de facto manager would be hired as 'first team coach' and assume those responsibilities.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on. If someone isn't meeting the expectations of their role then it's the owners right to fire them.
This is an poorly thought through attempt to protect those managers who are fired despite doing a relatively good job. In reality however most aren't fired in those circumstances, they're fired because the team is failing. You make laws for the rule, not the exception.
I don't think Carraghers idea is entirely thought out, but it is an interesting concept.
I'd sooner see the idea of having no transfer window for players in January tbh.Having that introduced may deter the rash of managers sackings that happem in December/January and it would stop undermining clubs plans as they would have a whole season with the same players

The January window is just a massive panic. Managers get sacked and crap players bought for silly money. QPR under Redknapp last year was just a farce. The Samba deal was a joke.

They should only be able to change their manager, during the transfer window.

this is the better option...

Don't think not having a transfer window would change anything about the manager being sacked, we've just seen Fulham back a manager in Rene in the transfer window but then sack him in favour of a manager who's got no expo of English football.
He then refuses to play the clubs record transfer fee player, deeming him not yet good enough.
Good idea in theory. Would never work in practice.
If managers aren't hitting targets and are underperforming, they should be made liable. Just like the rest of us.
Only a thick mouser like Carragher could think it is a good idea to be forced to keep your manager.
Was Carra trying to rile Gary Neville? He must have been smoking the same stuff as at the Emirates, man.

We could finally implement our deep cover agent Sherwood and have him play the Spurs reserves for the rest of the season.
