Considering what circumstances. When you bought ozil for a record fee and sat pretty at the top of the league you were favs. And you lot on social media talk sport newspaper collumns were saying the same. Now because that isn't happening its "well at the start of the season no made us favs so were not"
----------------------------------
Oh come off it. When were we ever favourites to win the title?! Dunno if you had your head buried in sand, but every media pundit on the planet wrote us off from the start to this moment. No one gave us a shot of even competing for the title. Look back at all the major pundit predictions at the start of the season. The top 4 was City, United, Chelsea and Tottenham, with Liverpool perhaps with a shout for top 4. Arsenal, as far as they were concerned, were out of it.
City were expected to win the title. In fact, there was talk of the Quadruple not even a month ago.
If things happens as you have stated, Arsenal would have exceeded expectations and City would have failed to meet expectations. But that's only because people had little to no expectations from Arsenal, and sky high expectations for City.
Must of misheard gooners on ts then..
Skins please answer it for me
finishing 2nd or 3rd both gets you the same thing. IF Arsenal won the FA cup and finished 3rd then they've had a better season than City finishing 2nd with the League cup. Don't know why its so hard to grasp that, BlueBon. All if's and but's ofcourse, City could still end up winning the domestic double and Arsenal end up 4th with no FA cup .
Assuming TS is TalkSport, that explains a lot
TalkSport?! Fúck me, can't believe i actually wasted my time here then!
Hate to get into semantics but the title is who has had a more 'successful' not who is better or had performed better
With the difference between 2nd and 3rd minimal in terms of reward whereas one trophy being far more respected than the other it could easily be argued that 3rd and FA Cup is better
I wouldn't really care for spitting contest comparisons like that though
I didn't say pundits on talkshite
No you said the idiots who actually pay 5quid minute on their premium phoneline
At least the presenters get paid for their drivel
I've said all season that I didn't expect to win the title this year, I expected Chelsea to due to Mourinho knowing the league and our team being a bit mixed between players suited to Pellegrini and others suited to Mancinis tactics (which are very different).
I would say arsenal would have had the more successful season if they win the FA cup and finish fourth compared to us third, partly as it is a bit of vindication for Wenger and how long it has been, that first trophy could kick start them again into winning more. What I would say though is that from a financial sense, I bet both clubs would prefer to turn around the games against Bayern and Barca more than winning either cup to be honest.
Melton how can finishing 3rd be better then finishing second?!
If City only wins the Carling and the Gunners win the F.A. Cup, but don't make the top 4, then they will both have failed to meet pre-season expectations!
Okay then.
Did Wigan have a more successful season then us and arsenal last year?!
Depends on your perspective bluebon
For City to just win the COC would have to be called an average season
For Arsenal to finally win a trophy can only be called a successful season
More successful then finishing second with a league cup.
All about perspective
To me yes
So silver and bronze medals are the same?!
Is there any point in competition any more?!

Surely then the team that has had the most successful this season considering media/fans expectations, money spent on transfers (small compared to other clubs), etc has been Liverpool?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps. But i still think the most successful English team, this season, if all goes to plan will be Chelsea.
Relatively modest (considering what they have spent in the past) transfer activity, yet won the league title away from the City big spenders.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's got to be a WUM statement..surely?
Chelsea spent more than anyone else in Jan...for the big push.
Yes, they have the points on the board...and that's massive. But please don't claim you winning the league will be by virtue of City spending money and you not...what a joke. Over the past 17 years, you're still £187m on spending ahead of us...and we've had to spend 95% of it in 4/5 seasons.
As for Cups and who is better than who, who is more successful than who...it's all a little playground stuff.
As a fan...there was no way on god's earth I would have said at the start of the season..."we're going to win the quadruple or treble"....and I don't think any City fan would have said that. We brought in a new Manager that most us thought..."what's he gonna be like"...so why would we ever think what the press and journo's claim?
The media hyped up this whole quadruple nonsense when we started to blow teams away...but most City fans knew that wouldn't last, it never does. Fighting on all 4 fronts always takes it toll over a season...that's why nobody has ever done it...so papers making false accusations and twisting what Pellegrini said in interviews, made it worse...he's never ever said "we'll win all 4". All he ever said was "whatever we're in, we'll try and win it"...and who wouldn't? Oh yeah, Jose Mourinho...who always talks everything down to protect his ego...in case it doesn't turn out well.
As for the cups....Arsenal fans, you've not got to the final yet, never mind won it. Your fixture list in the PL looks like a nightmare awaits.....so it's way too late to be talking of a successful season....you've won nothing, the season isn't over, you could be out of the CL along with us.....the one thing is, we've already won a trophy this season...you've yet to in anything...and a CL's spot is up for grabs by all teams in the top 7....including us......so be gracious, bite your lips....and don't behave like the journo's have made City out to be...claiming all sorts of nonsense before winning anything......as it stands, we could win one cup, so could you....you could win nothing, we have already won something...wait until the season is over..then decide who had the best season.
The reason I say arsenal is because at the start of the season the FA cup was the best realistic target while City had realistic title ambitions
Get what you meant Paul...
Yes, after our last few years....and the player we brought in, we'd expect something more than a Capitol One Cup...
And yes, Arsenal have broke their bank to sign the 'world-class Ozil' in an attempt to get a trophy on the cheap....and have yet to win anything....nor claim a CL's spot...so I guess if we won our one trophy and Arsenal won the FA Cup...i'd agree, they may have had a better season...as it's been so long for them to lift anything..
However, they've won nothing yet, qualified for nothing yet.
We've won 1 trophy...still have a chance of going top of the PL, albeit being tough....and still in with the shame shout as Arsenal in the CL.......
There's really no point in discussing what constitutes a successful season until it's over...
You could possibly say, that if United get the 4th spot this season....it would be a remarkable season for them in light of where they stand now in the league...ahead of our C1C or potentially Arsenal's FA Cup.....it's all relative, but only when the season is done and dusted and we know what everyone has won and where everyone has finished.

What I would say is that I don't the the expectations of the club this year are the same as the media or opposition fans. Title challenge, a cup and progression through the group stage would have been Pellegrinis remit in his first season and he's essentially done that.
Whatever happens we will have had a better season that man c, because we will be the Arsenal!! and they will still just be man c..poor things...
