i also think proving yourself either on the international stage or in the CL is a must to be in the world class bracket

Mex - last year would Falcao have been on that list?

hmmm, now he's a strange one for me, he's a brilliant goalscorer, but i do feel he's slightly over-rated, not a patch on Ibrahimovic, Suarez or Aguero for me

The OP is a WUM.

As was said earlier, Sturridge needs to do it for at least another season and against better opposition to be classed as world class in my opinion.

Falcao is world class, there's no doubt of that.

Fair enough

On form last year - you could have argued it was world class - but he has definitely dipped, perhaps the fact that he is at Monaco and Injured means we have not seen him get going.

I think all of these have been world class players at one time or another in the last 20 years:

Owen
Scholes
Beckham
Gerrard
Lampard
Cole
Terry
Ferdinand
Rooney
Shearer

Has any of them been in the top 3 of the worlds best for longer than 2 seasons, only A Cole for me.

Gerrard has been world class for years, he single handedly carried a club for the best part of a decade - the amount of last minute winners and game changing moments is astonishing.

- Sturridge
- Cahill
- Wilshere
- Baines
*************************
Sorry, none of them are world class.

agreed, Scholes was world class for a decade aswell, just a shame no england manager could see that those 2 should have been the CM partnership

Tell me about it, one thing we are really truly without is world class british managers!

All England need is a balanced team, players that compliment each other.

Square pegs in round holes is how I see the Hodgson tenure.

I'm going to world cup too, good job I wont be watching England

Yes is the answer to that. But I don't understand why the cut off has to be top 3? Why not top 4, or top 5?

What you can say about those players is that they've been consistently good for at least 2 years whether in club and international level or club and European level, or all 3.

I'm just saying that if he only won pfa player of the year once, and has never been in the top 3-5 for world player of the year, how can he be called world class. Gerrard is a top top player but, when he was at his peak, we had players like Zidane, Ronaldiniho, Ronaldo etc around and he wasn't better than them. i think because we all watch the PL all the time,we think these players are the best on the planet, our league isn't the best and our players haven't been the best either.

I've never been convinced by Gerrard. His best games for Liverpool were always with a world-class midfielder holding his hand; he was always made to look better by the tactical intelligence of other players. As soon as he became the biggest name in Liverpool's midfield, his limitations started to shine through.

Scholes? There's definitely an argument to be made for him. It's a shame Arsenal fans mostly remember him as a bit of a thug, because in his prime he was probably United's best source of spontaneous creativity.

Beckham is an obvious choice. Technically superb, gave structure to his teams' attacks, and was so proficient he played to an exceptional level until the age of 37.

Campbell - for all his gum-flapping lately, people forget just how good a defender he was. Wouldn't have looked out of place in Italy.

Lampard would have been eaten alive in any other European league.
