good luck AVB
its ridiculous that we got rid of him in the circumstances we did. i assumed that Levy had a back up plan, a proper one
AVB masterminded our first win at Old Trafford in over a decade (with SAF in charge) - Clint Dempsey scored 2 that day.
People forget all the good he did. Remember him fixing us conceding late goals? We could do with that kind of attention to detail with the way we're starting games.. underrated manager.. albeit bad with the press.. should've been given more time.
Yeah I don't think it's fair to say he allowed us to become a one man team. He decided to play Bale in a more central role when our utterly shiiite attackers weren't scoring enough.

Bale's
Look at how good our away record had become under him too.
We got Holtby under AVB too. Were any of them HIS signings though?

I wish we had stuck with AVB to be honest with you, I also wish Levy had allowed AVB to bring in his own players as well. Moutinho looked a dead cert before the window closed in the 12/13 season, but facking Levy pulled the plug on it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True...
Like the other nine managers before him never in with a chance, the guy pulling the the strings upstairs never gets any of the blame.
And so it will always be......................Next.
clearly AVB still has a hell of a lot to learn about management. let's face it, winning a 2 horse race in the Portuguese league with the likes of Hulk, falcao and Moutinho in your team is not that special an achievement. okay, the Europa League was an achievement, but then Porto's domestic dominance is such they can actually afford to take Europa League seriously
since then his achievements are bombing spectacularly at both Chelsea and Spurs. he ain't ready yet, simple as. you got to learn to walk before you run
said this on another thread, imo the best thing he could have done after that Spurs debacle is to start again with a long term project with a smaller club in Spain/Portugal
Win / points percentages mean nothing when you get spanked by the big boys, AND alienate he fans by playing dull football. He took the passion out of our club, games weren't fun any more. Tim is the exact opposite but without any tactical know-how. A mixture of the two would be great.
I really, really wanted avb to do well, but he just didn't. I think to an extent he gets jobs because on paper he is perfect - young, apprentice of mourihno, fluent in languages, tactical genius, one successful season, that's every clubs dream (and the media too).
But there was just something missing. He isn't mourihno. I wish him well but people suggesting he shouldn't have gone are perhaps using their rose (not Danny rose) tinted spectacles.
Bought Lloris and Dembele too, Raptor.
spanked by the big boys

Really?
Tim is the exact opposite to what you seem to think AVB was about.
Of course he's not Mourinho but he's a decent manager with a definite style of play, and an approach that could be proven to be effective.. the players we lost and/or ild to sign weakened the squad dramatically.
Guardiola would struggle to get our current first XI playing attractive, attacking football.
People are rightly saying he shouldn't have gone because we've now brought in someone who is worse.

There were those that said AVB wasn't the right choice, and if you're one of those then it looks twice as bad for Levy knowing we might have gone for Martinez or Rodgers, who are now both doing very well with their new clubs, playing flowing attacking football (the opposite of what we had under AVB).

I'm not anti AVB, as I said I wish it had worked, I wanted it to and I liked him. But you can't deny things weren't right. When you listened to people like Pleat talk about his time, they say that players weren't allowed to just go out and play football, express themselves, they had very rigid jobs to do. As a result our play was boring, which I suppose you'd take if you were winning every game, but it didn't work against the top clubs.
You can never say it's all the manager's fault and I agree our current squad isn't great, but I can't see how anyone can argue that AVB and spurs ultimately didn't work.

I think AVB should have been given the season but I agree there wasnt something right, the fact we were getting hammered against the big teams, dull football and isolating Ade.
Levy brought in Sherwood who as everyone knows has no experience so I hope we keep with him otherwise why didnt levy bring in someone like hoddle if we were bringing in a guy just to manage for the rest of the season. I think even hoddle came out publicly saying he would of taken the job!
