All over. Ronnie crashes out losing to Yu Delu 4-3!
Time to concentrate on his defence of his world title. 23 days to go.
Not that surprising. It's best of 7 and a throw away comp. It won't phase Ronnie at all. And Yu Delu can be very dangerous. That's why some people are stupid... they put down Ronnie's opposition like they are useless. The truth is he MAKES them look useless. And if he doesn't perform at his best, he can lose. Simple.
Suppose that's true. Extra time for Ronnie to prepare for Sheffield now too especially with most flying out to China for next week's Open.
and today h was beaten on 93% pot success. But in longer format, there are very few who can live with that.
The only concerning thing for Ronnie fans from that match with Yu was that last red that Ronnie missed. Otherwise 93% is OK for the Worlds, Yu De Lu wouldn't be able to keep that up best of 25 and probably not best of 19 which is why long formats are so different.
However, I don't know about Dan but as a big Ronnie fan myself I was a little concerned about that last missed red from Ronnie. A single instance, but exactly the kind of stuff that if it were to occur many times is a classic age related decline symptom. Otherwise the 140 total clearance was encouraging.
Nah one pot missed isn't a crisis or any indicator. He did that a lot a few years back and everyone was writing the obituary.

I'm not so concerned looking at the miss again. An age related decline miss tends to be closer. This missed by miles on an easy shot so more likely a simple glitch, like when you think so much about position you forget to concentrate on the simple red. Ronnie probably didn't want to win this one much anyway, after winning the last two events probably didn't want to peak too soon.
He will go away, practice like mad, he will be ready for 10 am on 19th April. Some potential tough players in the first round.... Mark Williams perhaps.
What these little pokey tournaments need is a hook to make them seem more worthwhile. A shotclock or something similar. Make this and another tournament shotclock rankers to get some variation in the calendar. Different colour baize wouldn't go amiss either, to make them memorable in the copy and paste snooker calendar.
Yes. Shot clock ranking events are needed. A few of them. The speed difference means the flair players would have an advantage, and more over, there could be more frames allocated because of the smaller amount of time taken. A first to 6 each early round for example.
But the purist fans, and the dinosaur organisers don't want to entertain any notion of that. They'd rather best of 7 "same old".
I don't think there's anything wrong with a few tournaments with a shot clock. Most of the tournaments are played the traditional way anyway, so why not have a bit of variation? It's only like all the different types of cricket match. Test, 20/20, ODI's. Why can't it be the same for snooker? Same game, slightly different rules. I'm sure the players would enjoy the variation too.
Four reds to hit the cushion off a break too. Open the table to get the frame going. But the increased difficulty offered by shotclock play would balance out the open nature of the table to lower the chances of too much 'one visit' snooker. And scrap the miss rule, which slows the game to a crawl at times. Ball in hand will put a stop to professional fouling.
