So for Mata to come in after the remaining 9 players whoever they are.. would suggest he's quite far off the likes of Ozil, Silva, Robben, Ribery which he is not.
I bet no one on our board would have dared to say he's not a top 20 player last season.
If there are 11 players, which there may not be as there is a huge amount of debating leeway, who are better than him in his position, then he's not likely to be top 20 in the world overall?
Okay it's difficult to compare players across positions

Pretty harsh on Oscar.

Stop the presses, football fans behave tribally.
12 months ago Mata was one of my favourite players. That's all gone now.
Who's being tribal? Not me. Whether Mata plays for us or not, i still recognise his quality.
Not really, I think Oscar is one of the most overrated players in the league.
Nothing tribal here either, as Mata was one of my favourite players when he played for Chelsea, so I was thrilled when we signed him - I'm just a bit gutted that he's had Moyes unleashed on him.
I'm not trying to do him down. All I said is that I thought I could name 20 attackers who I think bring more to a team.
TBF I got a debatable 11 but I haven't pushed it to the limit and i've excluded straight CFs.
12 months ago Mata was being talked alongside Silva and Cazorla and he is still that same player. Ask Silva to trackback in a Mourinho team and see what he turns out like. Ditto Cazorla.
You've listed two players that play in his position, not 11. And I wouldn't agree that Di Maria is better. Ozil you have a case.

Still a class player, though.
Not easy keeping Cleverley outta the team
Cazorla does not turn up to big games
Worry about Moysey's missing in big games Daz
two things struck me here...
1) did the OP mean international teams (i.e. one from each international team)
2) I havn't spotted Rooney anywhere on here...& as such cannot take any of this seriously as I keep getting told he is world class
very odd indeed
