Think we'll spend big on a LB and CM as I think these will be a priority for Moyes and any other positions will have players coming in for reasonable money such as another CB and winger. I don't think these positions there is as much of a need.
think we could do with another top quality winger tho to take the pressure off of januzai but cant see it. not seen a lot of carvahlo so cant comment. shaw would obviously be brilliant but 30 mil is a lot of money
There is high hopes for that Ginter fella. Feyenoord have a couple of young CB's who are decent as well.
Would be happy with Shaw, Banega + another CM (Carv, haven't seen enough of him)
And a back up winger who is better than Valencia, Young and Nani, to share responsibility with Januzaj.
Banega only has a year left on his contract and doesn't seem to be fancied at Valencia. Less than £10m would buy him.

As far as realistic is concerned, I agree a 100%
I don't really agree with the methodology, to be honest. Just because we don't have a habit of signing players from CL clubs doesn't mean we can't this summer - plus Carvalho and Benatia are at clubs that will be in the CL so you're not exactly sticking to your own criteria.
Signing the likes of Reus and Kroos are unrealistic, but signing players from CL clubs isn't, it's just a case of who and whether we can tempt them.
There are also plenty of CL clubs that don't have our financial backing, in fact there are very few that actually do. So our transfer history shouldn't precipitate what's realistic and what's not as our transfer policy is a bit different now and the Mata signing and pursuits of certain big players shows this.
IF we really splash the cash and rebuild, it's possible to convince top players that this season is just a blip. If we miss out we miss out, but there is quality out there that can improve this team - regardless of whether they are in the CL and our feelings over the manager.
Hopefully we can get things right this time round in the market.

Past performance is the best indicator for predicting future performance. It's how economic/financial models work.
My criteria was players who had played CL football the season before joining. Being in the CL the following season is of no relevance to the discussion

Yes but if your economic and financial model changes and so does your transfer policy then it's not always that relevant, is it?
Look at Arsenal and Ozil, history would suggest that transfer wasn't on the cards but it happened. That's why predicting our transfers in the summer is difficult because we have a different manager and chief exec with a different way of doing things.
Why is being in the CL this season not relevant but it is for last season? Players that have only just got into the CL may not want to join us because they've finally got into the CL. Just as a player that has already played CL football may want to on the basis that it might only be a year out and then we'll be back in and the can get a massive wage increase.
You cannot put a criteria on our transfers this summer as we've never been in this situation.

No idea what you're postulating with the first statement.
Because I've used that criteria to identify the 7 signings in the OP. We do not sign players from top clubs on a regular basis.
Because you're saying it's not realistic to sign players from CL clubs because Gill and Fergie had a different transfer policy, when it doesn't work like that.
Recently we've signed three players from CL clubs, because the situation of the players allowed us to do so. So why can't we do it again this summer?
I'm not saying we're going to go out and sign all these players, but there are players at CL clubs that just cannot compete with us financially and that gives us a big pull when it comes to signings - if the club deem it necessary to stump up the amount of money needed.

Unfortunately, the dire state we are in requires us to get the very best player but that ain't happening at the moment. The lure of playing for Moyes with no CL will not attract the best. Did above will improve what we have slightly.
I think we will be in for Shaw, Kroos, Carvalho as our priorities together with a CB and winger. Whether we get them or not is questionable.
Would be superb if we could get Reus. Not sure which CB he may go for, Garay possibly as I doubt we will beat City to Mangala. Or as I have said before and been laughed at, Winston Reid. Not saying I would buy him but would not b surprised if a top 7 team buys him !
So we do not have a track record of going out and paying a premium for the highest performing players in Europe.
We didn't have a track record of not coming in top 3 of the pl. Till this season.
Man city didnt have a track record of buying world class players till they started doing so.
We had a good manager, and now have a bad one.
My point? In football, things change.
We need top players to recover, especially if were gonna keep moyes at the helm.
And can't for the love of god think why we're not being linked with Herrera, we should of bought him last summer.
What a weird article. Don't really understand the relevance of the point...
What are you struggling with exactly?
I really like Garay think he would be a very good addition to the back line.
Priority is 2 top centre midfielders. I'd like to see koke and a midfield enforcer. Not seen him but heard good reports about carvalho.
Plus a top winger. Reus probably would be a dream signing. Likelihood is maybe llalana

Suit up, Stretty -- you could yet seal the deal yourself.
I'm not a fan of Garay. I don't watch Benfica much but he's never impressed me and he looks a joke for Argentina.
We can do better, in fact, I think we already have better.
Beg to differ Darren. I've watched benfica 3 or 4 times recently and he has impressed. Strong and quick and very good at set pieces and good going forward. Something we don't really have at the minute in our cbs
Quick? That's one thing I've thought he's the opposite of. Watched him get run ragged in Europe and for Argentina when pushing up.
Not my cup of tea. Average defender.
Well we will agree to disagree. IMO he is far from an average defender and he us very good on the ball. Something you can't say for our current defenders
