the media said exactly the same about Robbo when we finally won it. So I would just suck it up. When he gets his hands on our Trophy in a couple of weeks you wont here the last of it. Brace yourself

I heard someone on the radio say "if anyone deserves a PL medal, it's Gerrard".

Which is a fine statement in itself, except that they didn't qualify it. I found myself asking (to the radio!) "why?"

Because he's been a one-club man? What if that club had been Shrewsbury, would he deserve one then? What if he weren't English?

wtf is gerrard mania, its a team game, you seem to have made yourself angry and upset

Agreed. Without Suarez they wouldnt be top 4, though its an irrelevant point as they do have Suarez. What a player. Best in the league by a country mile. Doing for an average team what Ronaldo did for us.

If goals by each club's top scorer weren't counted, Liverpool would have a 10 point lead at the top of the PL from Chelsea.

I quite like the hype.

"said that about Robbo too."

Well the same question applies. Why did Robbo deserve one, more than anyone else? He wasn't a one-club man.

Ok, he wasn't a diving cheat who bottled World Cups, but there are other players like that too.

It's getting frustrating if I'm being honest, the medias hype about our title challenge. Yes it's an incredible achievement to be where we are thus far but the media are acting like it's our destiny to win it when they wouldn't have even had us down as Top 4 candidates at the beginning of the season (For fun I checked around the net for where the various media sources predicted the top four at the beginning of the season and we never made an appearance).

By all means, I hope we do win the title, and I really hope that Gerrard gets that medal, but the media gushing about us smacks of pandering to the romantic side of football. Nothing wrong with that of course, but I can't help but feel they'll be the first ones on our backs if we mess up on the final hurdle.

Just ignore the media. By and large they're a bunch of s

Robson had his league title handed to him with a few cameo appearances here and there but Gerrard lead by example, scored vital goals and made plenty of assists and chances.

That means absolutely nothing in the context of me sayong that if you hadnt kept Suarez you wouldnt be top 4. Now if you could provide the stats to show you would be top without his goals and assists I will humbly concede the point

Take Suarez away and we've still got the leagues top scorer. Yes Suarez has been superb and our best player but he's not the only great player we have, Gerrard has probably been the if not one of the best midfielders in the league this season.

Who ever wins the league will have deserved it because they will be top of the league after 38 games and you can pull any excuse up you want, thems the facts!

"Robson had his league title handed to him with a few cameo appearances here and there but Gerrard lead by example, scored vital goals and made plenty of assists and chances."

I think Robbo's leading ability was why they kept him in the team. We hadn't won the league for 26 yrs, so they certainly didn't include him in the line-up to make up the numbers as a gesture. We needed our best players out there. He still had a lot to offer, even at that age.

As a sub-point, Gerrard is not even fit to tie Robson's laces. It's not even a contest.

So if people are saying that the media were over-the-top with Robson, a genuine legend (and not just in his own city), that just fuels the argument against the constant drivel around Gerrard.

Are you an idiot? You dont seem to comprehend the point. Im not saying you dont deserve to be top of the league, but I was agreeing with the OP that too much focus is on Gerrard when anyone with eyes can see that Suarez has won you the league this season...

The only people who 'deserve' to win the league are the players who have actually done so.

Tony Hibbert has been committed to the Everton cause for 14 seasons now, does he deserve a league medal too?
