Either you're being disingenuous or you don't really know what you're talking about and I can't work out which.

Matt Le Tissier had wonderful loyalty and talent. Did he deserve a league medal?

Gazza was one of the most talented players England ever had, did he deserve a league medal?
--------------------------
Did Giggs deserve to be player of the year just because he's been a great player in years gone by? No!

The only reason Gerrard will deserve a league winners medal is if (IF) Liverpool win it!

As a sub-point, Gerrard is not even fit to tie Robson's laces. It's not even a contest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Penalty spot.

I think Robson was a tremendous player, criminally under-rated by many football fans in my opinion. I include Utd fans in that btw, how on earth the likes of Cantona and Keane are rated above Robson is beyond me.

However, not fit to tie his laces? Seriously?!

I don't know whether you just don't like Gerrard or are so set against Liverpool that you can't appreciate the mans ability but that's a daft comment. Even if you said you thought Robson was better then fair enough, your opinion, but not fit to tie his laces is a stupid comment.

That's not what I was referring to. It was this.

And in his career is it not only Chelsea who have put in a bid for him? Not many opportunities for him to jump ship.

Anyway as said I've only seen Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea fans on this site that don't want him to win it. It's not so different from people thinking Giggs should get a player of the season despite never being the best player of the season.

If I look back will I see you writing 100's of words on why he shouldn't get that benched? It's almost as if you and some other fans don't want him to win it because he is Steven Gerrard who plays for Liverpool but I know you wouldn't do that.

Probably somewhere between the two.

Skrtel has been superb!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Skrtel is a thug who gets away with cheating at every set piece.
--------------------------------
And he's the only centre half who pulls shirts and blocks in the penalty area!

You're coming across as a bitter fool!

So your rationale for deserving a league medal is being talented?
Wrong, it is about performing well in a high performing team. Gerrard hasn't achieved that very often in his career.

I can understand why so many people would want to see Gerrard win a league title, but that doesn't mean he deserves one.

As has been said, he only deserves one if he actually wins it.

By no means. Liverpool have played wonderful football this year and their attacking players have made up for their defensive frailties. If they win the league then they will have earned it, same as any other team in any other year.
Gerrard was a great player in his pomp and one who I would have loved to replace Keane but he does not deserve anything, you earn medals. If Liverpool win the league then he will have got his just rewards, if they don't then likewise.

Gerrard has never courted controversy in my recollection. Never been maligned. Seems to be a good role model for kids aspiring to be footballers (Scarce these days!). Loyal to his club (ok - thought about Chelsea on 05), never held his club to ransom. Players like Giroud, Rooney etc should take a leaf out of his book.

I think the reason people say "deserves" a league medal is because there was a time when could have gone to Chelsea and won a league. I'm pretty sure he would have won the league there anyway.

He stayed.

People admire that and this is why they say he deserves it. I'd like to see him win it especially, I do think he deserves to finally win it, mainly because I'm not dead inside.

I'm witnessing pragmatism on an autistic scale with regards to the cynicism regarding this subject.

No single player 'deserves' to win a title - this is a team sport, and so it's the team at the end of the season that deserves the title, end of.

As for the merits of staying at one club/showing loyalty etc, there are always 2 sides to the argument. It's always easier to show loyalty to a club that is successful, whether that's winning titles or other trophies, than staying with one that isn't consistently challenging for silverware. I guess it's about personal ambition against personal 'happyness', and that's always different for each player.

However, as a professional sport, where the ultimate goal is winning, then any player who stays at a club which is perceived to be successful rather than move to one that is, will always have that decision questioned.

Never get why Gerrard is hailed as the messiah over there, do people forget he tried pushing a move to Chelsea all those years ago? And before people get on my back, I know Rooney's done it to us blah blah

No certainties he would have won a title at Chelsea. He'd have had to play in midfield with Lampard, don't forget.

How does it make people dead inside because they don't want to see Gerrard win a title?

For Liverpool fans it's a given, but not everyone thinks the sun shines out of Gerrard's aris like your fans do so it's a bit silly slagging people off for not sharing your view.

I'm sure were the tables turned and it was Wayne Rooney we were talking about the Liverpool fans wouldn't be saying he deserves one and that they'd like to see him win one - though I'm sure they'll pretend they would just to try and prove a point.

Giggs deserved to win the premier league. So too dod Neville and Scholes. Not so sure about Gerrard
