People on here are very touchy over Carrick, so i needed to be careful with this article.

I don't dislike him, but certainly if we need to rebuild he is part of the problem as much as anyone. Just far too slow.

He's been a very good player for us but I agree his time as first team regular should be over now. He should be limited to 20-25 apps a season from next year.

Either Fabregas or Kroos should be priority number 1 this summer.
And William Carvalho should be taking Carrick's starting position.

agreed, perhaps max of 20 games. More if we have injuries.

About time we had a world class midfield not just an ok/average one.

Carrick was the worst player by some distance in 2008. Now he's older, less mobile, less effective or attack minded and still one of our best. Shows how far we've let the standard drop.

I have said for ages now that we are playing Carrick in the wrong position.

He is not, never was, and never will be a DM. We have wasted the talent he does have, playing him there. He should have always been played further forwards.

But let's be honest.........He's still our best CM, isn't he?

That in itself is damning.

He is our best but that's not a compliment.

I have made my views on our CM well known, I think for a club of Man Utd's size it's shocking that we can get regularly dominated at OT by lower table sides. Basically any side with a quick mobile midfield with plenty of energy and we cannot cope.

hanging onto midfield players unable to perform at the standard required is one of the reasons the club is in this mess. Phase him out or at best get rid

Don't understand United fans. You used to bang on about how underrated he is. Then as soon as he gets fairly rated by England, the media and opposition fans all of a sudden he's crap and overrated.

He's far from crap saggy8.

Technically he's a sound intelligent footballer. But he's now 33 and he was never the most mobile of players in his early 20's. He's past his best and needs replacing.

Some Utd fans yes but not all, i have always had a reserved view on him.

I think he has always been slow, and his passing is overrated at times. Yes we all know he can ping a lovely long pass but he creates pretty much nothing for our strikers and the stat on MOTD the other week said it all.

From our main 3 midfielders they've created not a single chance all season. (think it was Robbie Savage that showed the stat)

VCD,

Carrick's role in the team is not to score goals or create chances. (As much as it probably should be)
His job is to take the ball out from the back, cover on the counter and shield the counter attack. We have the 5th best defensive record in the league.

In the Premier League, 22 midfielders have made 900 passes this season. Six are yet to produce an assist: Mile Jedinak, Jose Canas, Gary Medel, Michael Carrick, Lucas and Cleverley

Don't care where Carrick plays, he is a CM and should be able to create chances from there.

Not good enough just to say he breaks up play a CM needs to do more.

If i were Hodgson i would take Carrick. He may not of had a good season but it is not easy in a team that is not doing well.

When Carrick played alongside Gerrard for England a little while back i thought they looked the most natural pairing for a long time. They both looked like they enjoyed playing together. Both intelligent players and i feel he will give us more cover than Wilshire who i feel is a little niave at times.

he has been a good servant for United but for the club to move on, it needs to invest heavily in the CM department to inject some pace and urgency. Carrick can not provide that.

I am glad you agree, like I said I'm not trying to bash the guy.

But he isn't going to improve he will decline more and more.

with a 33 and 34 year old in CM England might as well not bother going.

Somone will say why are we going anyway but we need to play Barkley not aging playing who have had their chances and failed.
