I've just booked mine and jnrs travel and acomms to Istanbul for the champions league final

Just being practical rather than overconfident

Makes sense. I booked Madrid before the semi finals. And got a great apartment for a fraction of what mates paid for horrible hostels.

I also love Istanbul. In my top 3 cities.

Wow. This comment shocked me. Istanbul is the worst City I have ever been to. I found it to dirty, it smelt, locals were unwelcoming. People in restaurants try to scam you, in fact everywhere tries to scam you, taxis, shops, you name it.

When I go to other countries I love trying new things, food and alcohol especially. I found the food not to be great and when you're scammed on top of that it really leaves a bad impression. The worst time was actually in the airport. We had just arrived and were starving. We needed to eat something quick before going for our taxi. My wife ordered a meal deal from some Italian style fast food place. Firstly they tried to charge us more than the menu said, when we pointed it out, they gave us less that the menu showed. We had to ask for each individual item, one by one, and he slammed it down on the tray each time. We even had to ask for the drinks that were supposed to come with it.

We left the airport and found a taxi right outside. The guy started driving, and we didn't know this at the time(also we suspected it as we recognised we'd been some places before) but he reached about 2 minutes away from our hotel and drove back close to the airport then back again. He then overcharged us.

The hotel we stayed in was quite nice, however the area in was in was dodgy as hell. The looks you got from people at night was crazy. We weren't in a tourist type place but amongst locals. My wife was afraid to go out at night.

There was one good thing about it, I really liked Efes. A really nice beer.

I'm shocked at your comments. I've been out there a dozen times and never once felt in danger at any point no matter where I've been or what time ive been there. I'm terms of being scammed, the hospitality is one of the most amazing things about the place. I've always found the people cannot do enough for you and the places I have eaten have generally been amazing. The sea food there is spectacular. I love the feel of old and new and the atmosphere in the city, the bars down by the bosphorus built into old architecture are stunning.

I'm genuinely shocked. Maybe I need to give it another go, although I don't think I have any chance of chance convincing my wife.

I do agree, in actual restaurants and bars, the service was quite good but you do have to investigate every bill you receive.

It's just Georgia is right next door, the food is amazing, the wine the best I've ever had, the hospitality outstanding and so much to do in the capital. It looks like it has about 20 city centres. It's also cheaper. Also you don't get people scamming you, well apart from taxi drivers. You have to ask the fare first and bargain them down if it is expensive.

Unfortunately its not a fantasy though.

Emre Can scored a screamer on his Dortmund debut yesterday in a 4-3 loss to Leverkusen. Would recommend watching the game if anyone can find a full replay as it was an absolute thriller!
