It is a shame Mini has not got up to speed yet. Was hoping he would have made an impact by now but I guess we got spoilt by the instant impact of Mane and Salah.

Was listening to talksport they had Sam Allardyce on who was the opposing manager when we last lost at home v Palace.
He said that because we press so well they really only had one option, that was to hit Benteke and play off the knockdowns with a very mobile advanced midfielder playing around him.
This is because our fullbacks push up leaving space either side of the central midfield pairing and their first goal came from that.
Would prefer Ox and Milner today for this reason, that they can provide a bit of width on the opposing flank if the fullbacks don’t get high, but also provide cover when they do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I think we just play our normal game and put a few past them with no reply.
I'd go with Fabinho, Henderson/Wijnaldum and Keita in midfield. I'm guessing Ox will be injured or at least not 100%.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Got it right. Well apart from the not conceding. Wasn't expecting West Ham to go at us the way they did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And apart from not playing Ox who came on and gave us that bit extra.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't say we shouldn't play him. I said wouldn't start him. He picked up s knock in the last game and wasn't moving freely.
Is this half a grapefruit a new technique I don't know about
I thoroughly enjoyed last night's game. Yes we didn't play well but finally we played a team which gave us a game of football.
Some of our games (Atletico being the worst) can be dull affairs with 90 minutes of attack v defence. Was a really enjoyable game last night.

I think last night was a good example of why Werner / someone similar is needed. None of the front 3 were great and I've always said that whilst Bobby is an amazing player, in all his time here, he's never been able to maintain top form over a few months, let alone a season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was consistent the 17/18 season...outshone by Salah's freak season though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah. He looked completely shot by end of March.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still a world class season though...basically in numbers what Salah & Mane gave us last season and people were talking about them being top 5 players in the world.

Was a great article in the athletic about attacking players having freedom. In both Klopp's and Guardiola's systems, there is no freedom at all. It's all immensely calculated and pre-medicated.
Whereas under Mourinho he trusts his forward players to express themselves and gives them a great deal of freedom. That sort of management isn't working as well anymore.
I thought for the last 30 minutes, Bobby was superb. His link up play was excellent.
ESPN did a quick piece on it. He totally turned the screw but those around him kept fluffing their lines.

Gomez is a fantastic player when he's playing alongside a commanding aerial centre back.
It allows him to concentrate on the strengths of his game defensively which to be fair are exceptional, but he is always going to need that dominant aerial player alongside him I think otherwise that weakness in his game is likely to be exposed.

Not sure I entirely agree...I'm pretty sure Pep has said in the past that he develops the tactics that will get his players into the opposition's box time and time again but that final pass, shot or whatever is always their decision. Which is why he always seems to hail Messi to the heavens...Messi almost always makes the right decision. Same reason why Robben who everyone thought was too selfish or one dimensional to play in a Guardiola system seemed to excel more than Ribery. He actually loves players that express themselves as long as they're still diligent.
Pep always talks about educating his players to the point where they can manage the game themselves. The same can be said for our current side.
