At this stage, Liverpool have no plans to sign a centre-back in January, despite calls from a number of quarters to do so. #awlfc [@neiljonesgoal]

Who's genuinely available of the quality we need. I don't want a squad player that's going to drop to the bench when either Matip or Gomez is back to full fitness. It needs to be a first teamer that can actually partner Van Dijk.

One injury away from Philips and Williams at the back.

That is the worry for me. Those guys have done very well while playing alongside a senior partner but we have seen on a few occasions this season that once you take out that experience, all hell seems to break loose. I’d really fear for us if we lose Fabinho as well for any kind of long period of time.
Let’s face it if we were on the hunt for a CB the club wouldn’t be advertising this fact.
Has nobody learned anything about how the club does business over last few years.
To be honest we are genuinely in the loop about most major transfers these days. I can only think of Firmino and Fabinho that happened out of nowhere...which leads me to believe that there isn't a CB signing on horizon...unless of course it happens like Fabinho or Firmino...which I doubt.
There’s as much noise coming from the club for a CB as there was for Jota
Still the point is the same. The surprise transfers are more an anomaly
I’d just like a full strength XI with proper options on the bench

I completely accept your point and to some extent agree but it hinges on the definition of ‘quality we need’. To take a different stance....
This is a generational team. We’ve been waiting 30 years for a side like this and a manager like we have at the helm. I don’t want to waste even one season of them. Right now it looks as though we might be trying to win the EPL and CL with a 19 year old defender who was playing for Kidderminster this time last year.
The quality we need is better than the quality we have. We don’t have VvD or Gomez this season and Matip remains to be seen how many games he’ll play. Yes it’s shameless short-termism but I’d argue this team has earned the right for a bit of short term thinking because goodness knows when we’ll see another team like them.
We need a CB. Williams and Phillips are not good enough.
I'd be happy with a decent loan option. However, I think we need 1 more CB anyway as Matip is so unreliable (and Gomez to a lesser extent) and Fab needs to be available in midfield sometimes.
I'd be happy with a youngish CB though and don't think we need the finished product who can go straight in with VVD.
I wouldn't mind a loan for an experienced head but there definitely needs to be a more permanent signing at the end of the season regardless of what happens with Matip or Gomez.
Agree about a loan deal. I understand the position to not panic buy which is why the club may need to get creative in this window. Most importantly we need a short term solution to cover the next few months.
There’s likely to be a drop in quality for that kind of deal but an experienced head may be all that is required. We are also getting to the stage on the injury front where we purely need extra numbers in that position just to be able to rotate and keep players fresh.
Is it really a panic buy considering we probably needed a CB when Lovren left?
Going into the season with 3 centre backs, 2 of whom are injury liabilities was always a big risk.
I'd like to have Fabinho back in central midfielder too, in truth. Think him, Thiago and one other is probably the best midfield on the planet and whilst he's a good centre back I'd like to see him back in his proper position.
Bitterly disappointed with yesterday's result and performance, was harsh on Williams but in truth neither him nor Phillips would be anywhere near the first 11 if it wasn't for our injury crisis and it shows.
Don't really understand the obsession about 'panic buying'. We are top of the league with no fit centre backs. Signing a central defender is not panic buying it's a sensible signing.

Great points here.
Panic buy goes out of the window when we have 2 long term injuries and now Matip on his next phase of injuries. 90% of the defenders will jump at the chance to play for the PL champions even in Jan.
Just go and get Schuurs. Ajax always accept if you pay the price. I know he said he wants to stay there but that changes after one phone call with Klopp.
