Absolutely crazy about Raducanu, amazing achievement, her opponent in the final has a similar story, she's only 19.
Finalists of the US Open have a combined age of Cristiano Ronaldo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I imagine Romania (her father), China (her mother) and Canada (where she was born) all are quite jealous of our ability to claim her success
It's also funny to see page 1 of the daily express frothy mouthed about migrants, and page 2 celebrating the achievements of one, from two parents who themselves migrated to Canada
She should be immensely proud of the way she's bounced back from the last tournament.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Winds me up when people say things about dual nationality when it comes to sport. We open our arms to the whole world, so why shouldn’t we benefit when it comes to sport?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really true post Brexit.
The farmers with rotting crops, the entire hospitality sector and the chronic lack of HGV drivers paints a different picture.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s not actually true. The current issues are mainly down to COVID, with an estimated one million leaving to avoid our high death and infection rates, along with the effects of lockdown, furlough etc….

How come we couldn’t control our borders when it came to locking down the nation v a foreign virus?
Uk had already left the EU as of January 2020
radacunas career is just going to be people constantly arguing over her heritage, shame.
This is what the Brazil FA expect from our players this month and next
Current entry requirements for Brazil from the U.K.;
“Entry rules in response to coronavirus
Entry to Brazil
Entry by air
Aircraft passengers who have been in the UK, South Africa or India in the 14 days prior to arriving in Brazil must quarantine for 14 days.”
Players are expected to fly to Brazil, quarantine for 14 days, get back to match fitness in time for internationals, fly back to U.K., quarantine for 10 days, get back to match fitness, then eventually be able to play for their clubs. Total quarantine 24 days, WC qualifier matches played over what 7-10 days?
They expect this to happen all over again next month?
They do know who pays the players wages right? When are they expected to play for their clubs?
What a joke
Apparently Coutinho only needs to play another ten games and we’ll be due another 17m…..

My point is most of them actually left because of Covid, not Brexit. If they were already qualified to stay under the EU settlement scheme, then as long as they can provide some kind of evidence that the reason they exceeded the 12 month threshold for being out of the UK was because of Covid then they shouldn’t lose their right to return. You can argue that the whole process needs simplifying and that it should be easier to enter the UK and you’d probably be right, but in this instance Brexit wasn’t the deciding factor in them leaving in the first place.

“ My point is most of them actually left because of Covid, not Brexit.”
Don’t know how you can say this with any certainty.
Hgv drivers unless settled in the UK cannot work in the UK.
There have been calls for HGV drivers to be put on the shortage occupation list but UK Gov hasn’t done so.
It’s not true they only left because of Covid, they also left due to Brexit if they couldn’t get settled status in time etc.
Now everyone, including drivers will need passports to come into UK. Even if they are only delivering goods - when previously their country ID cards were sufficient.
You might just find things in even shorter supply than previous, as well as reduced propensity for seasonal workers who also will not be on the shortage occupation list.

Just one reference, there are plenty of others. I didn’t even think I’d said anything controversial, especially when you look at the timeframes. I’m not suggesting that Brexit could easily have been a factor in their decision, and it’ll probably be a bigger factor in their decision on whether they come back or not, but the overriding initial reason for them leaving in the first place was COVID.
The Government website goes into great detail about using COVID as the reason for extended absences from the UK…..

This sector is obviously an exception, I agree that the shortage here is primarily down to Brexit. It’s more the hospitality and service sectors that I’m referring to as these were obviously massively affected by Covid.

I don't think anyone said it was controversial. It's also pretty specific to hospitality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s a few here that seem to disagree with it, so maybe they do??
I don’t have figures to back this up as I don’t think they’re available yet, but I’d suggest that the vast majority that left did so from the hospitality industry, as that’s what most of the case studies seem to reference and what huge numbers of EU workers were involved in.
The current issues are mainly down to COVID, with an estimated one million leaving to avoid our high death and infection rates, along with the effects of lockdown, furlough etc….
-----
This is what I can't get my head around. No way that many left because of covid. If the opportunity to work was available as had always been many would have stayed inspite of covid.
As later clarified, both covid and brexit are playing their roles. IMO this was likely to happen because of Brexit, indeed it was predicted long before covid broke out, and the existence of covid has made it worse than it should have been if it was just brexit alone.
I’ve managed to fit Salah, Ronaldo, Lukaku & Kane into my FF team…

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not? The entire hospitality industry ground to a halt, there was literally no work for them. So it’s not unreasonable for them to want to go back ‘home’ to be close to family. At that time no one knew how Covid was going to play out and the fear factor was huge, especially with the projections being bandied about for the UK. It’s funny that some people’s recollection on how afraid most people were back then seem to be getting fuzzy already…..

------------------------------------------------
You'd think that would be the case but, from a recruitment perspective, the struggle many businesses have found recruiting people who are actually interested in working is about as difficult as I have ever found it, granted it isn't decades, but a considerable amount of time.
The turnover of staff we've had over the last sort of 12-18 months has been sky high, the impression I've got is many people have not seem the slightest bit interested in working, because it's easy to sit at home and earn 80% for so long.
But even after that, I see the same when most industries opened up again. We never shut in the first place anyway, but regardless, I can't fathom how people are affording to live at the moment by me.
I know I'm talking about recruitment and the comment was related to retention, but my point is based on I'm just seeing more and more people becoming less interested in work, for whatever reasons.

Apparently Coutinho only needs to play another ten games and we’ll be due another 17m…..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we wont get any of that, we sold the debt to a bank

Can’t wait for the canny pay we’ll take it away Barca addition then
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Genius move in retrospect considering how hard up Barca are.
We would probably never seen it had he played the next ten games.

Ah yes, I remember that now. Just saw it mentioned on on Footytalk I think it was. Shows how little they actually research what they print 🙄

Winds me up when people say things about dual nationality when it comes to sport. We open our arms to the whole world, so why shouldn’t we benefit when it comes to sport?

Not really true post Brexit.
The farmers with rotting crops, the entire hospitality sector and the chronic lack of HGV drivers paints a different picture.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s not actually true. The current issues are mainly down to COVID, with an estimated one million leaving to avoid our high death and infection rates, along with the effects of lockdown, furlough etc….
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not the case at all, if you speak to the haulier industry, or the farming industry, both are calling for migration rules to be relaxed because so much of their workforce has left.
Listen to the industry bodies
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point is most of them actually left because of Covid, not Brexit.
