The obvious transition in managers seems to be to go from Klopp to Gerrard, but it's impossible to say now anyway as it's still well over 2 years away before we even get to that point and a lot could happen in that time.

I don't think Gerrard would even be thinking about the Liverpool job at this point anyway either, he's a professional manager who needs to focus on the here and now to improve his managerial ability and collect as much experience as possible. A move to Villa would be a wise one and one with a challenge to match their high expectations as well.

The dream would be Gerrard to Villa, doing well there for a few years and then replacing Klopp if he leaves in 2024.

Well actually better than that I'd prefer Klopp stayed but he'd have been here 9 years by that point.

I think Gerrard going to any PL club is a massive gamble.

If he flops, I don't think he will ever be Liverpool manager

Gerrards contract at rangers ends same time as Klopps at liverpool.

If gerrard is going to succeed anywhere in the PL it will be with us.

Saying Gerrard should not go to Villa if he got offered the job is like asking Dalglish not to accept his knighthood lol

I think if he just stays with Rangers until 2024 he'll be offered the Liverpool job when Klopp leaves.

If he went to a Villa and it went badly for him he may jeopardise that opportunity as we may think twice about it, that's why I don't see him taking it personally.

Obviously I hope he does take it though as it will be good for us.

If it goes badly for him then maybe he’s not the right man for us…..

Gerrard has broken Celtic's dominance in the SPL. He's reached the pinnacle there.

Also, if he stays at Rangers, he risks being seen as not experienced enough when Klopp leaves Liverpool in 2024.

He's won the league up north, I feel its the right time to join a prem club if possible. If he does a half decent job at a club like Villa then the job is definitely his in 2024 if he wants it.

Going to Villa from Rangers is a step down in my book.

He needs European experience to manage Liverpool, and he’s not really going to get that at Villa next season.

I think testing his wits against the likes of Pep, Klopp, Conte, Rafa etc on a consistent basis is one of the better choices he can make for his career.

Villa are a big club tbf and they have money.

Think European experience is a valid point though.

Yeah it's a good move for him.

I like their squad on paper but the balance is poor and that's why DS struggled to get them on the pitch together.

Cant see Gerrard messing around with a back three and two up top so really it's about how to get their best players on the pitch at the same time and personally, I don't think you can so someone is going to be upset.

If he's worth his salt then he would potentially move Villa into a European spot should he take charge of them anyway.

Looks like it, yeah.

I'm not convinced he will succeed. The majority of club legends don't do well at their clubs. The exception to the rule are Dalglish, Cruyf and Pep. He needs to prove himself at another club in the PL.

I have seen some of their European games and they had a good tactical structure and principles but the challenge is to do it in the best league in the world. He also needs to change his backroom team if he wants to manage Liverpool. Beale and McAllister aren't on the same level as Lijnders and Lillo. A prime example is Ole with guys doing an apprenticeship and who haven't a clue how to tweak things during a game.

Okay, I will bite.

What on Earth is this based on?

I still think he needs to stay at Rangers. He's only won 1 trophy in 3.5 (almost) seasons which albeit was the big one its still not enough. Yes there was a rebuild job but in that time Kilmarnock won 2 cups. He should stay loyal and win the league again with a cup and then in summer move on to the next job.

Clubs like Villa, Newcastle and even Leicester will continue to look for new managers and he will be in high demand. Eddie Howe ain't going to last long even if he keeps them in league.

The amount of data analytics the guys do is unreal.

The boffin squad we have had rocket scientists and astrophysicists compiling data.

Don’t think it was done like that in any management team that Gerrard played in.

It's been said before though, what if the opportunity doesn't come again? If he doesn't join Villa now, stays at Rangers and fails, why would a PL club want him if he couldn't succeed at Rangers?
