I'd personally like to win a domestic trophy this year we've not done so for years. We've used weakened teams throughout but it's 2 more games to win it (I believe they are only doing 1 leg this year).
Pretty certain the players will want to try and win it now.
I'd rather win the cup and finish third than finish second with nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we’re trying to finish first, so Klopp can’t play the’would you rather’ game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Catching City will be a very very tall order even at this early stage.
One game (provided it is indeed one leg) where we play a strong team will be fine. I fully expect to rest a few but expect to see some of Jones, Origi, Gomez, Tsimikas rather than the kids.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're only 3 points behind Fred. Not going all GB but they are definitely catchable.
Said it a while ago to hoody that to win the league we'll most likely need minimum of 4 points from City and Chelsea away

Each position higher you finish in the league is about £3m in prize money.
Winning the league cup is worth a tube of pringles.. if we want to continue to have strong teams, then we need to prioritise what makes us money.

No one is not saying the league is not more important. Yesterday we didn't even play our 2nd string. The U23s are not ready to take on a full Leicester team and it showed big time yesterday. Klopp took a huge gamble and it didn't pay so he made the changes at HT which got us back in the game.
Just because league and CL are priority does not mean we should just bin the cup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact you've thought a professional football manager at the elite level of the game would "bin" any game of football I do not know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was referring to some of our fans behavior who were dismissing the cup. In particular one fan who said it was not worth it because we only win 300k for winning it

Which is an utterly stupid comment from tbab.
Because the reality is that those group games inflate our purchasing power, unlike the League cup which won't even pay half of Salahs weekly wage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fak me you are embarrassing.
Most fans only care about trophies. The league Cup is very important after we got to the QF. Genuine chance for the players to win a trophy. I couldn't care less that you only get 10p for winning it. Stop deluding yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weren't you crying about on squad not being good enough to win the game yesterday before it had even kicked off?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I said Klopp played the youth because he feels his squad depth is not good enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The youth ia part of our squad. If you ever thought we'd play a strong team in the middle of the busiest time of the season with COVID thrown into the mix them you're insane. Klopp doesn't care about this comp. Even if we didn't have a game for 7 days after I doubt he'd play a full team. You were probably upset we won because it meant you couldn't cry about FSG in the same way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Upset lol. I'm not the one making a case that we only get 300k to win the league Cup so we should bin it. We just saw in the 2nd half how if you bring a few more of the first team squad that we are a match for anyone and it was proved right.
The people who are upset are the ones who are lying to themselves that this competition didn't mean anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The match itself meant something as all matches do. The competition itself is an inconvenience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said embarrassing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A Literal trophy is an inconvenience but we should play the full strength squad for the most meaningless group stage game in our clubs history for a bit of money, despite the fact going strong last year in the exact same scenario had a part in derailing our season when Jota got injured. But hey at least we got our 2 million. Accountant fans everyone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But yet you sit here and phiss and moan about the club not spending enough money yet you're promoting going for a trophy that is worth less money to the club!

Not sure what everybody is crying about anyway, Shrewsbury at Anfield is the game sandwiched between the two legs and then Brentford and Anfield afterwards.
After Brentford we have an 8 day gap and then a 14 day gap after that (another international break I assume).
Chelsea is an absolutely vital game, no doubt but if we can do it in the CL, we can do it in January.
It's also likely to be a one legged tie anyway.

Do people know what the line up in game 6 of the CL actually was?
Had Nat Phillips, Neco Williams, Tsimikas, Morton, Origi and Minamino in it, not full strength at all.

Yeah I would expect a team like this against Arsenal:
GK - Kelleher
RB - Neco
CB - Gomez
CB - Konate
LB - Tsimikas
RM - Milner
CM - Hendo
LM - Ox
RF - Origi
F9 - Bobby
LF - Taki

I'm pretty sure it will still be over two legs as the TV companies but agree with the rest.
Our league schedule, assuming no cancelled games, will be very light in Jan with long gaps between games. I can understand the narrative to rest first team players for the first leg as it will be on the back of three league games in quick succession.
Second leg is different story though and a good opportunity to go strong after almost whole of first team squad will be rested v Shrewsbury.
Seen some of our fans suggest we don't play our first team at all in any of the cup games, ergo not playing them for a total of 2 weeks, just so they are ready for a home game against Brentford. That is total nonsense and would do as much harm as it would good in my opinion.

Pretty much similar to what I'd expect in the League Cup semi, maybe without Morton, Nat and Neco.

Yeah I would expect a team like this against Arsenal:
GK - Kelleher
RB - Neco
CB - Gomez
CB - Konate
LB - Tsimikas
RM - Milner
CM - Hendo
LM - Ox
RF - Origi
F9 - Bobby
LF - Taki

Think we might see Fabinho or Thiago. They've had a couple of weeks off.
