We could really do with the type of physicality/presence and legs rice offers in mf. Hes a great ball winner and offers a lot. Exactly what we need but well out of our price range. Might aswell have coughed up for Bellingham, he also covers an insane amount of ground and gets through a lot of work in mf.
Hopefully these Kone/Thuram guys are similar in that respect and obtainable within our budget.
Think it was clear from the start with Thuram hes being pimped out by club and agent hoping for a bidding war or something. Fingers crossed he gets back from the u21 tourn and tells them i want Liverpool get it done.

He’s one of Argentina’s best players, who have just won the World Cup, and was one of the best midfielders in the league last season.
Just stop typing now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Means nothing. Djimi Traore, Biscan, Josemi and Antonio Nunez have CL winners medals? Does that make them top players. Of course it doesn't!
We're expecting far too much from Mac Allister when quality alternatives were available but our owners wouldn't sanction such transfers as they refuse to put their own money onto the club. How do you not understand this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s proven in this league, and he’s proven himself at international level, why are you comparing him to these players?
If we’d paid 100m for him you’d be celebrating. That’s how stupid and shallow you are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really wouldn't be celebrating paying £100m for a Brighton player you fool. Those fees should be reserved for the best players and the biggest clubs in the world. Now you're just being silly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet you say that Rice is worth 105m and he plays for the mighty West Ham.
You really are all over the place.

West Ham who won a European trophy and are 20x bigger than Brighton. Yep that club. As if I needed to clarify that for you

Rice fees mental but tbh i really like him as a player and he will still be worth it imo. Maddison is a baller, 40m and in a team suited to his strengths will be a bargain at that. Issue will be injuries, need to manager him well on that front.

105 million for Rice
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He'll be worth it in my opinion. He may not be flashy but he'll become an exceptional player imo.
No-one made more interceptions last season, he can also tackle, he takes care of the ball, has goals in his game (although needs to score more) and can break the lines.
No surprise both Pep and Arteta are after him, not many with that skill set
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. He's a top player who will only get better. Certainly better than the majority of our midfielders and infinitely better than Curtis "The Crab" Jones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't rip on Jones anymore, catch up
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s what no nothings used to call Wijnaldum. The same people then moaned like mad when we ‘let’ him leave. If Jones can stay fit and step up on what he showed the last third of last season, then I’ll be more than happy with him, despite his unexotic name.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gini was a decent player but I don't think we've missed him. I like to judge a player on the clubs he's linked with. The big European clubs weren't interested in him until his contract expired.
This is my concern with Mac. Don't remember us really having anyone rivals when trying to sign him. If he is as good as some of you are making out then Bayern, Real, Barca, PSG, City, Atletico etc would have been all over it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is never a good argument.
City pull out of Rice transfer.
It could just be in my head but they seem very good at driving up the price of players that rivals are interested in. Been a good few now, with Ronaldo being the best.
City Maguired them into paying more

----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest, I think this is a fair comment but I think this assumes that we have perfect knowledge through the press of exactly which clubs enquire for who and how far they get. It's perfectly possible City enquired too but we were already advanced, or Klopp managed to sell LFC to him as he has done with other players.
Also, we purposely avoid going for the limelight or hyped-up players and I'm glad we do - Caicedo has a big 'buy me' tag around his neck and his price I feel is inflated, and it's all very exciting if you're into new toys and transfers but I don't think that's good value. Value is obviously very important, and self-explanatory hopefully
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's really not a fair comment. Aside from the very valid point you made about whether any of us really know who is interested in who (irrespective of media links) then what does it really tell us about the likely quality of the player?
If you take some of the more recent successes; who competed with City for the signings of De Bruyne? Rodri? Bernardo? Maybe there were links but I don't recall City beating the likes of RM or Bayern or PSG to those signings.
Who did we beat for Salah? Mane? Firmino? Who did Arsenal beat for Odegaard?
Trying to link the possible success of a signing to whether the media report alternative clubs is just utter nonsense.

City Maguired them into paying more

Haha forgot that one. Excellent work.

Fred and Alexis Sanchez too. They have been playing United for years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I reckon they added a good £20m for Rice.

Sometimes selling clubs just use enquiries to drive up the price as well.
I remember Arsenal got shafted with Pepe when Lille used our links in the media to drive up the price

Legit the worst transfer in PL history. Utter wasteman.

surely they arent stupid enough to fall for that, imagine reading a indykalia tweet then massively increasing your offer

This is my concern with Mac. Don't remember us really having anyone rivals when trying to sign him. If he is as good as some of you are making out then Bayern, Real, Barca, PSG, City, Atletico etc would have been all over it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest, I think this is a fair comment but I think this assumes that we have perfect knowledge through the press of exactly which clubs enquire for who and how far they get.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
West Ham who won a European trophy and are 20x bigger than Brighton. Yep that club. As if I needed to clarify that for you
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The same West Ham that finished 22 points behind Brighton you mean?

Brighton finished potless. West Ham didn't. Bottled their chance in the FA Cup semi final. 👍
