Conor Zambrotta and Joe Maldini were really good again

That Tomkins article is amazing really. You can't argue with that surely.

comment by Robbing Hoody - I taught Szoboszlai how to cushion half volleys (U6374)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We’ve got a great balance atm, which we were struggling with a bit at the start of the season. AMA has had two very good games at 6 on the bounce too.

I’ve just watched brief highlights and Gakpo was influential. His form has been steadily improving. Same can be said for Gomez, who I was beginning to think was done tbh but he’s been great. I don’t think Robbo and Tsimikas should think they will just walk back in. Same could be said of Szob too.

How good are these kids doing too though?

Athletically Bradley looks to have it, his decisions were good and he seemingly reads the game well but I found it really pleasing that we had five academy players on the pitch at some point today. They all look to have a great temperament. Inglethorpe has done a fantastic job.

When/if we get most of the squad back the competition for places will be crazy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely, I'm so impressed with our squad right now, real depth at every position. I would even say that Endo showing great form at 6 recently has elevated AMA's game

Going for a snappy, mobile midfielder at the base that gets the ball forward quickly instead of a rangey player like Fabinho - interesting development from Klopp, especially since he's then putting the more powerful midfielders further forward. I think it emphasises how much Klopp trusts the CBs and then goalkeeper on yesterday's evidence, you totally understand why.

Honestly I just love Klopp lol totally overperforms the money he's spent and gets proper performances out of almost every player

Did Klopp say how long jones is out for? Because we will need his off the ball work for Fulham on Wednesday. Still don’t trust Gravenberch in transitions.

Almiron of to Saudi to assist Newcastle FFP woes. Who would have guessed that?

posted on 22/1/24

Not enough teams voted against it. But then it was only like 6 that voted for it wasn’t it?

Wasn't that loan agreements they voted on?

The fee for Almiron seems to be circa £21m from reports, which doesn't seem particularly inflated actually for a guy who is a EPL regular for a good side.

The point is nobody else would buy him and Newcastle would remain stuck.

Shows the problem with state ownership because even if it's totally legit it will always be questioned

You don't think there's a market for a 29 year old creative midfielder who isn't on crazy wages (£60k apparently)?

I'm not saying SA isn't the easy solution but I disagree that Newcastle would be stuck with him otherwise. I reckon there'd be a decent interest in Almiron for £15-20m. Solid EPL player.

The market is determined by many variables. It's not rare for players to not have a suitor at a certain point in time.

If such a market exists then how many other offers were there?

How in the name of hell am I supposed to know that?!

No clue. I'm just saying that making a definitive statement about Newcastle being stuck with him because nobody else would buy him doesn't seem particularly logical to me given his relative age, ability and wages.

I agree. I’d say it’s more likely that he’s going there because that’s where they want him to go, and he can be compensated for having to move.

Mamba’s just being his contrarian self

It happens all the time IMO, especially in January. Also, it feels like you're exaggerating a tad how marketable he is. His best days are clearly behind him.

posted on 22/1/24

If he was in demand I feel there'd have been a lot more interest in him, enough to get the rumour mill going. And at 21m then there should have been multiple clubs interested.

Will be back just in time for Burney, which will be my sons first game as they're currently heading out at the group stages.
